Nuclear Weapons and The U.N.
Once the U.N. passes the nuclear weapons ban, is it possible to bring it up for another vote and undo the ban later in the game?? Or is there a way to disable the U.N.???
I ask beacuse I was just about to complete the Manhattan project and Nuke my enemy back to the stone age when that damn U.N. interfered and ruined my plans. It would have been perfect as my enemy had all his units stacked in 2 cities. I find the game isn't nearly as fun when Nukes are taken out of the game. |

Destroy the UN and then I THINK the resolutions are no longer applied.
Anyone care to confirm? |

If it's Beyond the Sword just defy the resolution. If that's not an option, hope for the nuke resolution to pop up again and if it fails, nukes can once again become available. I'm not positive but I think razing the U.N. will simply lock any of its effects in place permamently, as you can no longer revote.

Ummm, i generally build the UN after the nukes so that i got no probs, but of course you can't do anything about the AI, so make yourself some friends and get elected secretary.

If the vote comes up again and fails the second time round, the resolution will be removed. In practice you'll probably have to defy this resolution to stop it passing, as the AI loves it.
Destroying the UN will NOT remove this resolution. In fact doing this just locks all resolutions in their current state, making it impossible to remove the nuke ban if it has been passed.

This is why I always try to build the UN and do my best to get elected Secretary General. I need my nukes!

Same here
Nukes are the best thing if you need a last minute lead to win a time victory, just launch many nukes at all his cities, press the turn button and njoy

Defying has its cost though. In my current game (which is the best game of Civ I have played in a long time) I went to war with my friend Pacal because he was nearing a culture win and his borders were expanding too far into my empire. Unfortunately he was more advanced than me (he had Mech Inf when I only had Cavalry) so I had to whip some ICBMs and used them to successfully destroy his cities. But using nukes caused him to hate me so he wouldn't capitulate, so I had to whip more nukes to win the war.
My main rival was Suryavarman and he had control of the UN, so he just kept on putting the nuke vote up as he knew I had to veto it. This caused massive unhappiness in my empire and production came to a standstill. Once Pacal finally surrendered, Suryavarman stopped putting it to the vote. I'm still trying to recover from the unhappiness in my cities which the vote caused. I've never seen the AI be so devious before.
