Best to start off with...?
hi everyone, new to these forums but I was wondering what people thought about what to build first? i seem to always lack firepower towards the end of the game and can't take on the british king!

I allways start with building Political Points for ~20 Turns, so i can get Menuit.
Otherwise... Docks is fine, if you are short on food. Church is nice to get some migrants.

Unless the AI starts producing liberty bells immediately (which they normally don't), I only need to produce a few turns of political points to insure that I get Peter Minuit.
After that, Docks, a basic Manufacturing Building, a Church to get a Firebrand Preacher running (really helps with building your other settlements early on), or Warehouses...whatever I think I can use.

Docks, Warehouse, Lumber Mill, then political point. (Menuit is nice but I can live without him while I can still hurry immigration instead of purchasing)
Maybe it can be better to build LM before warehouse... |

Peter Minuit is not vital, but that's because the game isn't challenging, even on Revolutionary.
However, he is the best way to spend the first 20 turns of your game, no brainer. I build Peter Minuit first, a lumber mill in my first colony (sometimes the one with the most food, otherwise the one most central on the landmass), and printing presses in all other colonies (followed by Newspapers). |
