Strange issue with Keyboard?
I just started building my new comp. Everything is running fine untill I start the setup for my mobo. When it comes to the set up screen I don't seem to be able to do anything. The keyboard flashes briefly when I plug it in. But afterwards I cannot select any option. I have used both a PS/2 keyboard and a USB keyboard to no avail. I'm starting to worry it is a mobo problem. So I could really use someone's help.

Do you have a different keyboard you can plug in and try? The keyboard is more likely to be bad than the mobo.

There is sometimes an option in BIOS to enable a USB keyboard during setup.. I had to do that once and was getting frustrated that my keyboard wasn't working.. it would flash on and off, too.
Maybe that's your problem..

What are you trying to do? Access the BIOS setup or install an OS?

Ya, I don't actually get that far. I am at the boot screen for the mobo and it gives me two options. To enter the setup menu or see my other options. F2 or delete. I can't do either. It simply does nothing when I hit either delete or F2. I know the keyboard PS/2 works, It is from the keyboarding I use on the other computer. I have tried resetting the CMOS jumper, nothing different happened. I started suspect it has something to do with my mobo, in which case I'll have a week long wait for a replacement!

Plug in a ps2 keyboard, go into BIOS, enable USB keyboard (it's an option in there somewhere), plug in your usb keyboard, reboot, profit

Thing is the ps2 keyboard doesn't work on the build computer. So basically I am stuck at setup start screen for BIOS.

No, it doesn't, however I just tried the PS/2 keyboard today on the build computer and it was working for a few seconds then it...froze? I turned on num lock and it worked but only briefly. After that was stuck in num lock. I still can't enter BIOS setup. The problem remains mysterious to me. Perhaps there is something wrong with the port itself?

Maybe your system is freezing? Is your heatsink attached firmly and evenly to your CPU? Is it the right one? and did you use a thermal compound?
You might try pressing delete (to enter setup). Turn on your system, count to three, then press delete repeatedly, twice a second until something happens (or doesn't )

Well, this is strange... My PS/2 Keyboard seems to work for a few second then it kinda... Freezes? I can turn num lock on and off an such but then I can't do anything. Hmmmm... Well, when I get out of school I will try to rapidly press delete as you suggested.
Note: I am still where I started I haven't progressed pass the BIOS boot screen.

Are there any bent pins in the PS2 plug? One time I had a bent pin and the keyboard did the same thing. Fortunatly, I always keep spare keyboards.

Well, I have sent the Motherboard back... Only problem is... They won't take it! Apparently it came with a SATA power cable, which I don't even recall coming with it (I had to use one of my spares). So much for the heavenly customer service I have been hearing about from Newegg. I even proposed to pay for the missing cable but they refused.

That's harsh. Buy a new cable for 2 dollars and pack the box to look exactly like it was when you opened it.

Who made your board? At any rate, once the Newegg warranty fails, you can have the pleasure of dealing with the manufacturer directly.
Have you tried re-seating all the components (mobo, ram, cpu) and mobo wiring? Are you completely sure that the USB connector you've tried is connected to the mobo (sometimes the front-panel needs extra connections)? Have you tried all the USB ports on the mobo? My most recent build was with a USB keyboard from scratch, so I don't understand why a non-USB keyboard would be a requirement for a first time boot.

USB keyboards are not always interpreted by the BIOS, by default. Therefore without Windows running, with some systems they will not do anything. Getting into the BIOS setup can be one of those catch 22 situations.
