NotW XXII: The Long March - Signup Thread
Disclaimer: I don't play Fall from Heaven, nor do I ever expect to. So, feel free to point out any of the wild inaccuracies that is bound to appear within this game. Don't actually expect me to do anything about them. Maybe if you close your eyes and forget about them they won't bother you as much.
A wind rattled the gates of the empty Castle Stonemoor. And a world away, a butterfly's vibrations were about to cause a hurricane... The regiment moved as quietly as mice, which is to say that they were rather loud because mice, if you ever decided to be quiet for once and really pay attention to the poor buggers, were actually quite loud relative to their size. A more appropriate expression in fact would be as quiet as silence, except that would not have the same sort of stylistic effect and in any case this army was moving fairly loudly. Somewhere, far away, a trumpet rang. Nobody picked up. ... It was, as would later be noted by esteemed historians such as Shaka III that when the walls fell at the Battle of Oiav, that this was the only known battle in history wherein both the Bannor forces and the Clan of Embers ambushed each other simultaneously. The exact details of how exactly this inexplicable situation came about are lost in the sands of history, but needless to say it was incredibly intriguing and probably would have done wonders for the art of military science. Steel clashed against other metals occasionally, but mostly it was steel as the Bannor struck, deep within Orc territory. The crusade had spanned months and had been wildly successful, if you believed the leadership that is. Most of the actual crusaders were kind of tired because they hadn't sacked a city per se and escaped with fabulous hordes of wealth. Sure, the first few times descending upon innocent villagers was morale-boosting, but even the most simple peasant boy gets a bit jaded after the twelfth time he's raped their dinners and eaten their wives. So, you can understand the enthusiasm with which the Bannor smashed their enemy. The Orcs, to their credit, were fighting for their own survival. And also they were fairly bloodthirsty anyway, taking most offenses as excuses for a bloodbath. If they would fight to the death over littering, just imagine what they would do when one of their prized cities was being attacked... In the middle of this maelstrom of destruction, a beast awoke, rising up through the floor and breathing fire in general directions. At least, it looked like a beast. Maybe it was one of the gods playing a cruel trick on them. In any case, that matter was not given much introspection before the mass's brains, hijacking the higher thought processes in a desperate attempt to survive, decided that perhaps they could deal with the question later and started the physical motions of running. The crowd gained camaraderie for a bit as they ran from a common foe, but the more opportunistic of the fleeing soldiers cut down members of the opposition as they ran and ran and ran and looted some gold and ran. Now the goal of the Bannor crusade was much more personal and that much more appealing. Get out of Orc territory. Now. ----- I hope you understood the rather hastily written backstory. In any case, welcome to my first hosting of NotW! I hope to make this game successful, although, given my track record, I doubt that my goals will be achieved. Let's press forward in any case. There will be two (2) threads devoted to the running of this one (1) game. Feel free to choose which thread you wish to participate in; I must have an equal number of people in each thread, so if you're the odd player out, you'll get first spot in the reserve list. I will also be assigning parts, and no, you don't get to influence your decision. Let the signing up begin! Thread the First 1. Chandrasekhar 2. sirtommygunn 3. thomas.berubeg 4. merciary 5. I'll be the first into the second thread.
Oh, and do you mind if I borrow your disclaimer for when we finally get around to my game? It might come in handy.

Great story.
Second thread for me, where all the cool people are, and we have ladies too.

As much as I think thread 2 is becoming bloated, I couldn't see myself playing without my Smurkz buddies. So thread 2 it is for me too. I'm sure thread 1 will fill up though, still lots of people to appear.
Very nice writeup LF! Sneerk, welcome to the asylum! All you could ever want to know and more can be found in the NOTW Information Thread.

![]() Terry Pratchett? The man who wrote Feet of Clay which I've recently finished and The Light Fantastic which I'm reading now? Nope, I've never heard of him. Update: Icekommander and D'Artagnan59 have been shunted to Thread One to even out the threads a little.
