HELP! Food is being used as hammers
Apologies if this is another newbie question.
I've just switched to BTS and early on the cities don't grow since the extra food is being used for production (shows 3 hammers and 1 food in the production bar). Later it uses it as food but then switches it back to production again - all seemingly random and not under my control. I can't see a way to take control of this - I've tried everything I can think of and looked in the Civilopedia and online. Nothing. Is it a bug? Or am I missing something obvious? Didn't see it do this is in plain vanlla Civ4 so presumably it's something new in the expansion. Thanks in advance. |

When you build a Worker or a Settler the city stops growing and all worked food is converted into hammers. Once the Worker/Settler is done, food goes to growth and hammers to production.

Thanks!
Thanks Gooblah I think that's what it was.
I had read that the growth stopped when making settlers but I hadn't realised the food went to production like that. And I didn't know it applied to workers too. RTFM a bit better I suppose ![]() Thanks again. |

If you read these forums a lot, you may see the terms "worker/settler pump city". That generally means a city with REALLY high food that you use to build workers and settlers, like those 5-seafood + Corn capitols you get sometimes.
