Must i reinstall or something?
Hi, been playing FFH2 for a long time, but never gotten around to fall further yet, so now I have tried it 10 times or so. The longest worked for 300 turns, but most only for like 30 turns or so. Then you see the lag on the computer since the graphics gets slow, and when I hit next turn it CTD. And then no of the saves work either. They worked before...
FFH2 works fine thought. Anyone come across this? Seems like it's not a bug since everybody seems to be playing but rather... my installation? I have also gotten bad memory allocation errors in Fall further, but only a couple... |

The visible slow-down followed by a crash is generally a sign that you don't have Python Exceptions enabled and it is TRYING to yell at you that something went wrong, then finally dying from the problem.

You want the CivilizationIV.ini file (by default it's located in My Documents\My Games\Beyond the Sword.)
Open it with notepad/wordpad etc, and find the lines: ; Set to 1 for no python exception popups HidePythonExceptions = 1 Change them to: ; Set to 1 for no python exception popups HidePythonExceptions = 0 Save the file and exit, and then run the game.

Thanks, done that. Funny that I didn't remember that since I just changed the autosave number and frequency just two weeks ago...
Since I ran a few normal FFH2 games my saves were overwritten. Gonna start a new game and try it until it fails again... |

The exceptions won't necessarily crash the game, but they can prevent some events/features from working correctly.

Maybe my installation was wrong. I didn't base fall further on an unpatched FFH2, because, noone leaves their FFH2 installation unpatched. Can this be the cause?

This one reminded me, that I still have to write a workaround for this problem. For some reason some systems run out of enough memory to handle a graphics update for the whole map at once. Maybe the MAF fix would help here too.

I never found out which FFH patch I needed so I dumped FF over FFH 040p and hoped for the best. And applied patch A (the latest at the time). It was too unstable to play. I don't want those popups so I hide python exceptions.

Well, I'm gonna stick with FFh2 instead, but it seemed fun before it crashed
