Master of Magic

I was cleaning up some things this past week and came across my original 3.5" disks for Master of Magic. I bought it when it first came out and never install or played it. I don't really know why. I've thought about giving it a go now. I've noticed something else odd. Why is there no special forum for this game on this site? There's one for Master of Orion. Is this game not that good? Is it worth trying?

It was probably a great strategy game in it's day, but it's been bettered many times. If you have Civ4, check out the Fall From Heaven mod for a similar experience.

Or you can try Age of Wonders: Shadow magic. Very interesting gameplay.

It's a great game that never spawned an official sequel.

That does look interesting. I may have to find it.
I've also decided to try to install MoM on my laptop.

Master of Magic was great for its time. I only started playing it about 4 years ago, many years after it came out.

Yikes! I installed it and I expected not so good graphics but it's worse than I hoped. It looks kind of like Civ 1 graphics. Not sure if I want to play it or not.

I would say Age of Wonders: Shadow Magic comes closest to recapturing the coolness of MOM. MOM itself was great back in the day. There haven't been other games that recapture all the great things you could do with it like the world spells and the cool combat. Shame it's never been bettered.

I don't find FFH to recapture the spirit of the game, I would say again Shadow Magic is closest.
