Hell terrain and the ocean

There really, really should be a different tile to distinguish hellish oceans and coasts. I thought it was being worked on a long time ago...

Why? I don't mean that as a criticism, I'm just curious what function it would serve.

Mostly it it would help you know where you should sanctify.

It would also allow for the creation of hellish sea resources, and maybe some monster lairs.

In my version is needed for my Hyborem to take advantage of his flying promtion as he cannot leave hell terrain.

While FF has many features that obviously have no place in FFH, this one IMHO should be here. If hell terrain already spreads through oceans why not give it a visual indication?

well, FF has different graphics for hellish water. a little bit glitchy, but a very welcome addition indeed. I wish it was the same for EACH terrain type.

Yes, mainly to know where to sanctify.

Plus, it would be cool to see the ocean turn to a black sludge... with mutated sea serpents and giant turtles crawling ashore killing and destroying things

Or does hell in Erebus still have fresh fish & clams?

the issue is, no matter what, the rivers will still be the same color, clear blue water flowing into sludge is weird, like a bad trip

The water in rivers is still pure, relatively pure when compared to hell oceans that is. We need a clear visual message that there are two kinds of waters in hell. The one which kills you the instant you touch it. And the one that leaves you alive for a few more hours in indescricable agony.

And sanctify alone is enough of a reason to do it, no matter how wacky it makes the rivers look.

When in doubt, sanctify it all. Let Hyborem sort them out.

I'm sure it would be possible to come up with a slightly more "evil" shade of blue for oceans that would clearly indicate hell terrain without making rivers look silly. It might not be as cool as black or red oceans, but it'd get the job done.

Or even an unhealthy green slime.

Or possibly- have a smaller version of the "unhealthy" city effect over affected ocean tiles..

That seems to me an excellent idea. The hellish green mists curling off the tepid ocean's surface, concealing who-knows-what horrors beneath.

Anything wichich would make seafaering not pleasure.

Doesn't hell terrain make it imposable to irrigate and make it so you have to build farms near fresh water only That would make the lack of rivers a major issue and make it hard to play w/o the fallow trait.

Well, you already lose flood plains when you sanctify, so I can see them just being gone for good, although I think they are fine as they are.
