civconfig.ini reverting to default?
Hi
This has happened to me twice now. I have a cpl of edits in the civconfig.ini file. One was that for LOOOONGEST time I kept getting message about using an illegal voice capture device or something like that everytime I started the game. But then I saw a post about something similar in the civ colonization forum and how you could fix it by editing it in notepad and changing some dealio about voice caputre device from 1 to 0. And while I was there I noticed you could change how often the game autosaves so I changed it from 4 to 1 so it autosaves every turn. Now, I ALSO have bat mod 1.1 installed and it is set to automatically load everytime I start up the game. Now twice this has happened--for some reason, I start up game and bat1.1 DOESNT load. if just loads up in regular game mode. And then that illegal voice capture device message comes up. And just to test it I start up a game and sure enough game back to autosaving every 4 turns. So I go and check and yes the civ4config file is back to default and I have to edit in my changes again. So I am just wondering what can cause this? It like the config file just edits itself back to default or replaces the edited version with a default copy it have from SOMEWHERE or something. AT least Im HOPING it something like that cuz only other thing I can think of is the game loads up notepad and reedits itself to default which is just waaay too freaky hehe :P Kaytie |

the civ4config is just a shortcut to the actual file (civilizationIV.ini) which resides in
\my games\<gamename>\ in that folder there also is a copy of it called civilizationIV.ini.bak if you remove or rename it this problem should be fixed. If not you can set the .ini to be write protected - but that would make sure that none of the changes the game makes (what options you chose when setting up a game) would stick... |

Hi
Okies, from what I am gathering is that for some reason the game decides to overwrite the config.ini by copying over it from the config.ini.bak backup file. But what would make the game just spontaneously do that? It seems to do it for no reason other than just to annoy me :/. Kaytie |

Frankly - I am not sure. Some people seem to have this problem, while others don't
