It's easy to run something which takes cpu usage without accessing the hard drive at all. (ie. run prime95 with low memory usage)

HDD usage is typically high when the CPU also happens to be high and the HDD uses some CPU when it's active.

Because the CPU is needed to access the drive and determine what is being written and read.

Okay, at yard sales and stuff I've seen floppy disk drives and other things. If I bought one of those, could I somehow turn it into an external one?

I'm looking for a program that would relatively easily allow me to build n play with a 3d model of my house.
I want to use it to plan out where to put furniture, layouts, see where things are going to fit, how it's going to look, etc. I know I can probably use some sort of an autocad-type program for this, but I'm looking for something a bit more.. built for this type of thing. ie. it should have a standard couch i can insert into my house - and allow me to adjust its dimensions, without me having to actually build every single piece of furniture from scratch. Any help will be appreciated

Google Sketchup looks like it was designed for precisely this purpose. |

I remember I had a program from Sierra years ago that was for that purpose, exactly. Of course, it was for Win98....

I tried Google Sketchup, and it seems to be more geared towards people who are designing 3d models.
I'm looking more for an interior design type thing.. i mean, if it had both the 3d modelling aspect and an interior design thing too, and it was free, that would be perfect. if there isn't anything free like that out there, well, there must be something i can buy. Padma, I remember the program you're talking about.. I think..

Googling 3D Home led me to this:
3D Home Architect Here's a trial for it: http://files.filefront.com/3D+Home+A.../fileinfo.html You should also check out your public library, they probably have something for your purposes if they carry software at all, I know my local one does.

All right, so I'm trying to make a video of the SimCopter game. It didn't work -- thinking it's to do with the switch in screen resolution and colors. Does anyone know how to do this?

How the hell do I install service pack 3 for xp? I tried to download it off the microsoft site, but it said to use the automatic updater thing. Well, it's been 3 months since I reformatted last and automatic updates are on, still no service pack 3. WTF. And now I have a damn virus, I should sue Google for putting sites with viruses on them as the first link. And Mcafee for being completely . .. .. .. .ing useless.

Also, Macafee sucks something, but I thought we all knew that already? Get rid of it and install a decent antivirus such as avast or AVG. NOD32 if you've got money.

I put the Mcafee on just because we got a free copy with some crappy computer we bought for my sister to go online on. Just figured I'd stick it on there since we had nothing else, still annoying as ever and useless though.
