I happened across this forum a couple weeks back. Colonization sounded great so I bought a copy on ebay for $4.99. Problem is it wont work on Win 98, NT or ME. I tried on all three.
Does anyone no if there is a fix or a patch out there that would enable Col to work on the newer versions of windows? Yes I know you guys are working on Col 2 and Sid may put one out. I am just wondering if Col I can be made to work. The version of the program I have is the windows version. It says on the box Win 3.1 or Win 95.

It does work at leas under 98. Just make sure you have enough lower memory, for I guess you own the old DOS version. Nevertheless, you can try to get Colonization for Windows, which has enhanced graphics and... run under windows

I own the DOS and Windows version of colonization. I ran them both on 98, and they both are running fine on XP. It might just be your copy.... It also might be the way you open them. Try accessing them using the DOS prompt. That might work.

I ran mine on 98, I believe, but the sound didn't work. I haven't tried on ME yet. I'll see what happens, if I can find my disk.

To all
I finally installed the latest patch I got from either the hasbro or Infrogrames website. I cant remember which one. Then I saw a post about turning off the sound. I turned the sound off in the game and I get an occassional lock up but nothing like before. I am doing a game now in the 1720's and have had only two lock ups. Hopefully Sid will do a new version of colonize or the Colonization project will come to fruition. Thanks for the help. |
