Does Windows search function not work well with xml files?

I've been looking in the SDK and following things back the the xml files the come from but the Windows search function hasn't been working. I've copied words directly from an xml file and had it search the folder the xml file is in for that word and it doesn't find it! I'm using 'search for a word of phrase in the file' and all the options are to search everything and exclude nothing and still it doesn't work.
How is this managing to screw up?

to be honest, I don't think windows search function works at all, except for finding a file name. I wouldn't even try using it to find something within a file. Just learn where the stuff is supposed to be yourself, its very organized and easy to understand once you play around with it enough.

I had a similar problem with Python files and xienwolf suggested that I use "Find In Files" in Notepad++. I recommend that you try it, it solved my problem.

I used Windows update and got this search indexing feature I remembered seeing (and ignoring because I forgot I actually did use search) before installed so it works now. I could have sworn it worked fine before.
