Civilization 4 Complete Edition, Problem.

I recently bought the Civilization 4 Complete Edition containing all of the expansion packs and Civilization 4 Colonization. When I install the game to my computer, it doesn't create any shortcuts or leave a prompt in my start up bar. When I insert the game into the computer and load it from there, the only thing it takes me too is Civilization 4 Colonization, and not the regular version.

Maybe I'm just missing something here, but how do I get to the Civilization 4 game?

Oh, and if its of any use, I use Windows Vista...

Thanks!

Welcome to CFC

the Vista thing was obvious

Anyways: go to
\Program Files\2K Games\Firaxis Games\Sid Meier's Civilization 4 Complete\
and use the .exe there to start civ 4
\Program Files\2K Games\Firaxis Games\Sid Meier's Civilization 4 Complete\Warlords\
and use the .exe there to start Warlords
\Program Files\2K Games\Firaxis Games\Sid Meier's Civilization 4 Complete\Beyond the Sword\
and use the .exe there to start BtS

you can also right click on those .exe files and choose send to -> desktop
to create your own shortcuts

click on search and search for civilization - that should give you the install directory at the very least...

I'm having the exact same problem. I just bought Civ 4 Complete. I install everything using default settings. It does not prompt me to place any links on my desktop or anything a game normally does. After finishing with Civ 4 and BtS, it starts installing Colonization immediately. When I try to play it, it then only allows me to play Colonization. And, to add insult to injury, the game is not properly aligned on my monitor, and it crashes after the first screen!

I tried searching for "civilization" and my computer only finds Civilization IV Colonization. I cannot locate the original games at all. I have no 2k Games file either. However, when I got to my programme manager it lists Civilization 4 in there too, seperately from Colonization.

This is quite aggravating to say the least, and I will think twice about buying products from this company again.

Welcome to CFC

did you look in program files\ or program files (x86)\ ?
what you describe is probably just a lack of shortcuts - not of the game itself...

Ori, for the record same issue

but your solutions seem to have worked. We are also on a new Vista computer with a new Civ IV Complete edition. One FYI note - in Vista (at least my knowledge so far) the suffixes (i.e. .exe) don't show up. I just read the name "application" and the 11MB file and figured that would be the one. Thanks.

its just the standard (and totally retarded) way that windows is set up: it hides "known" file extensions - to make sure that malware has it extremely simple to fool people into believing they have a benign file, I guess, since there is no other reason I can think of that would make microsoft use this as the standard setting [/rant]

I posted on another thread but since I FINALLY got my old civilization to uninstall this is more or less my problem now... I'm having nearly the same problem, when I install my complete edition game everything installs fine but civilization 4 and the other two games are nowhere to be found but colonization works just fine. I've searched all the program files and installed it under the given files and then my own and it doesn't seem to make a difference. There is a Civilization 4 file but when you open it there is nothing there besides empty or files that don't make a difference. There are no .exe or run files to be found ANYWHERE..it just seems to be one thing after another.
(of course I use Vista haha)

Would sincerely appreciate it if someone could help me out or I'm gonna end up having to take the game back..if that's even possible

And just to make extra sure..

It's not listed in the start-menu Games folder.

You'll find it in the Game Explorer accessible through either:

Start Menu | Games -> Game Explorer
or
Click Games in the upper right corner of the Start Menu
or
Search for Game Explorer in the Start Menu search.

If it's not there, something is definately not right

(Ofcourse.. for Civilization IV, you should also find the .exe by Searching for Civilization IV from the Start Menu (It'll be listed under Files in the search result) )

Failed Loading XML file XML\GlobalTypes.xml. [.\FXml.cpp:133] Error parsing XML File -
File: XML\GLobalTyles.xml
Reason: Element content is invalid accourding to the DTD/Schema.
Expecting: {x-schema:CIV4GlobalTypesSchema.xml}ArtStyleTypes.

And then other errors come up like..

LoadXML call failed for GlobalTypes.xml.
Current XML file is: xml\text\civ4gametext_civilopedia_bonuses.xml

Just a couple to say the least it goes on and on.
