Hi!
Can you help me? I would to create pipeline for transportation power/energy resourses (oil, gas), advise me please.
Thanks.

i strongly oppose to creating new connecting entities such as aqueduct systems, powerlines, pipelines. the tile is crowded as it is and increasing complexity without adding fan for the player is not good for gameplay. i vote against not even as a mod.

I'm all for it; more worker options means more strategic decisions of what to build where.

One thing I hate about Civ 4 is no longer getting to the point of railroading every tile.

The clutter of the map can be solved through toggle on/off options for everything. Organised well, this should require very few clicks to switch between predefined collections of toggles.

I have mixed emotions about the subject. I dont know that I'd go so far as aqueducts, but I do like the idea of interconnecting mass-power conduits, telecommunications etc.

You can always automate (similar to SMAC) "Build Road to ... <City Name>", that way it isn't any additional micromanagement. It then adds more "national" type projects that you can achieve, and adds strategical exploitation through the ability to seriously disrupt and impede a civs efforts. e.g. research could be seriously negatively impacted if you lose your communication.

Strategic power/energy pipelines in the Civilization IV or (add-on) for a lot of the states, here have lot of variants of succession of events in region, and in the further can influence for the all world, etc.
Example modern world, the Russian gas is transported on the pipeline to the Europe, the power independence of the Europe under threat of, the Europe searches for an alternative route of energy resources to provide power safety of continent, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan or Turkmenistan can solve power safety of Europe, here the formula is simple, the country the supplier; Turkmenistan / Azerbaijan / Kazakhstan, the country transit; Azerbaijan - Georgia - Turkey - the Balkans, the countries consumers; Georgia - Turkey - the Balkans …. and all the Europe, may be whole world. Russia jealously concerns to the given project, and further a trick.
Unlike roads and railways, the pipeline will be specific communication system, it is not be so many and will be tied only to power resourses, and will not cause difficulty in the management

Geopolitical..., intrigue between countries for control of energy resources, in addition to profits, would be the economic and political dividends. The significance of the transit country will be increased, especially for small states for which will be interesting to play, a small country which has no other levers of pressure, the pipeline will be a powerful geopolitical tool.

what new challenges will adding pipelines/powerlines provide?:dunno:

I hadn't thought as far as treaties on transportation etc (though that sounds an interesting idea in theory). To me, having pipelines and communications adds another aspect of strategic defence and/or attack. Take for example the highly sensitive cables which carry the T1 internet connections around; they are not publicized for security reasons. If I can use a spy to ascertain where they are, then I can massively weaken my enemy with a surgical attack on those at the outset of hostilities. Moreso for something like oil...

Very good idea, even though the gamers will hate it for 'micromanagement'.

They surely will, but the following should (I think) solve it - when the player start5s the game let them toggle it as an option. If they toggle OFF:
  • Provide a worker automation command like "construct internet cables", or alternatively even provide it as a national project (no workers required, autogenerates the tile improvements required).
  • Give it MASSIVE discovery-cost (for an enemy to locate) and a big hitpoint value (hard to destroy), thus meaning for an enemy to sabotage it is no longer cost-effective; the AI will not attempt it (effectively removing it as a complicating factor in the game)

YES!!!!!!!!! Thank you!

Make Civ5 as gamer friendly as you like, but make sure further control and depth is at least available without major drawbacks.

I like the idea, mostly, but I think it could get a bit messy. Do these ideas actually add to the fun of the game, or is it a mere duplication of existing supply lines, railroads, etc. As far as micromanagement, if it was going to be added to a great extent, CivMyWay is, of course, correct. Toggable automation FTW. But I think that almost everyone would end up toggling this off, which would just mean game clutter.

Reminder!

I love the idea so long as it doesn't require micromanagement, and wont take up too much valuable time. And if it can actually be realistically and successfully adapted to things like diplomacy.

That is true, there is minimum micromanagement, it at the beginning when we construct the pipeline, and more ... and more interesting news, look, geopolitics, diplomacy and economy, that's intriguing. Countries will avoid conflict of interests where there is profit and power.
