Military Struggle (Monarch)

This is by far my most successful monarch game in the history of me playing civ. However, I am stumped at this pont, when diplomatic struggle, and the might of a 3 vassal world leader defiyings your reign comes down with his armies and strikes you right were it hurts! I really need help as there are several paths I could take, each including thier own product. I am sorry these are thumbnails, but nonetheless I need the help. I have provided shots of diplo, status, military, and tech. Criticism taken.

I have decided to shoot up for rifling or military science, but since Ghengis Khan keeps building grenadiers, I have decided not to build very many rifles due to this. Actually, 80% of his army is grenadiers. For 1622 on marathon this is a decent tech rate, about 400 beakers a turn w/ out money loss. So far the Khan has decided to build grenadiers and cuirassiers so rifles would not be a good idea. I am the only one with steel, the AI usually at this point goes for democrocy. I have a decent amount of cannons as it is, building more. I am "Up there" in tech.

This is the most hammers I have ever had in one city. This is it's normal mode, strained, it can produce 100 hammers a turn! On marathon, that kind of production will make it feel like normal! The reason I put this up is because I want to let you know that I am capable of building ALOT of military, (the problem lies with my speed during war. The enemy has 2 move units and thier own roads.) I have a few other cities somewhat close to this level of Production.

At this point in the game thier really is no way of stopping enemy power without attacking them. (Which of course, I plan to do!) But Ghengis Khan is a steam train in power right now, (Not just on the graph.) This war will be difficult, but necessary if I want to win!

My stack only contains knights because I intended on russing Justinain before I knew that he was a vassal along with churchill, and sitting bull. I declared and it all went south so I reloaded the save, and am going to pull back the troops. In 50 turns or so, I could have moer than twice as many cannons. I am just stuck because I don't know weather or not to build rifles or not? More siege never hurt though!

Thanks for any helpful responses. BTW the captioning is not out of order.

With enough cannons and riflemen, or anything, I would hit him anyway, grenadiers or not. Try to lure his offensive grenadier stacks into your territory first, then finish them with some cannon suicides and rifles, then go on the offensive. Not quite elegant, but it should work.

Try to backfill your missing techs asap by spme tech trades. At least at monarch, the AI isn't that dangerous when it has tech parity military-wise.

Ah, I see you already have a SoD near his cities. Try to bring his nearest city defenses down via spy, then hit him but do not conquer the city. Usually, the AI will reinforce the city like a madman and you can bomb / kill its units down as they come, given your cannons are relatively OK and you have constant reinforcements incoming. If you want to wait, build rifles, they will do fine (given you kill Khan's offensive stacks first!)

Wait for some rifles yeah. Genghis's cuirassiers can eat your stack. Depending on the level, you can do it, but if he has a decent number of those, your stack will get burnt for nothing. Even 4 rifles will provide adequate defense.

Ulundi: either you cottage spam and put uni/obs/lib/marchet ... either you put workshops and build HE and ONLY units... I would farm two of these cottages and workshop the last. Lubermill on the remaining forest. Grow more you have room under happy cap. Don't do eveything in a city!

Cheers

edit: missed the engeener in Ulundi. if you are in mercantilism, nevermind. If not, fire him and work this mine! and put 2 workshops and 1 farm instead of 2 farms and 1 workshop.

Rifles are far superior to knights for one simple reason; grenadiers only get +50% when attacking at which point it's 18 vs. 14. Promote some rifles to guerillaII and park your stack on a hill where available to offset that advantage, then use some other unit as stack protector out in the open. With that stack of knights available, I suggest trading for nationalism after teching rifling and trying for cavalry.

After rifling go nationalism/mil-trad as Cavalry will be the stack protector of choice here, but thats a while off.

Until then it looks like you're infor a slog - If Khan has vassals the best way to free them is to make his empire smaller, then make peace. So attack the master not the servant here.

Your best stack protector against grens will be cannon, so consider making a few first strike to improve survivability.

Disagree, we have mucho cannon power now, use them, from a good defensive position though. I agree with the unit destruction aim though, its time to get napoleonic on khans ass. So avoid loitering in cities if there is an enemy SoD around - kill the enemy first, hold the cities later. Maybe you should burn a few cites
