Direct2Drive patching problems

Hi, I'm having some issues trying to update Vanilla Civ IV to patch 1.74. When I run the patch, the installer attemtps to uninstall civ IV. I've let it, and reinstalled, but nothing happened. I've cancelled the action, and the process shut down.

Running Windows Vista 32-bit

Civ IV downloads from d2d
Patch 1.74 also from d2d.

I'm working on contacting them right now, as I just downloaded the game last night (I own the cd version, but lost disc one). They only offer patch 1.74 on the website. Have yo ever heard of this issue, where the patch uninstalls the game?

are you sure the game is not already patched?

Yeah, it's not patched, b/c I can't install Warlords or BTS without the installer aborting due to it not being patched. D2D addressed that issue, saying you need to patch the game in order to install retail expansions.

I checked the build, it is 1.74.

So has anyone installed a cd retail expansion over a digital download vanilla successfully?

its supposed to work with D2D - is the BtS installer failing or the Warlords installer or both?

The Warlords installer gives me the series of errors (patching, patch failed b/c of no civ IV detected, and patch aborted) The BTS installer searches for directx and other installed components and then it just stops. No error, no warning, just goes away.

Update: BTS installer decided to work correctly, it's intsalling now, keeping my fingers crossed.

the warlords installer need 1.61 or earlier - its release was prior to 1.74 and it tries to patch the core game to 1.61 which won't work

So I was able to install BTS and patch it to the most current patch, but I still can't get Warlords to install. Is there a work around for the game trying to patch itself to the outdated version? Seems to me that this is a backwards way of installing a program.

you'll need to contact d2d for that - the way the installers try to work is that with Civ4 installed Warlords will install on anything with Civ4 1.00 to 1.61 and patch that to 1.61 and BtS will install on anything with 1.00 to 1.74 and patch that to 1.74 (as well as installing the Warlords 2.13 patch).
Also: with BtS installed any Warlords install will screw things up since BtS does install some Warlords files that it needs if Warlords is not installed previously - and altering those can have weird results.
It is possible that D2D can provide you with a 1.61 patch version of the game so you can install warlords, then patch to 1.74 and install BtS...

Yeah, I was working with them on this, they credited my account for a purchase of Warlords, since there was nothing they could do, so problem solved.
