Poor Sunderland!

It was rumoured that they were get O'Leary or the Ireland manager (Name alludes me at the moment) but instead they hired Howard Wilkinson... Terrible.

Mick McCarthy.

There must have been better choices than HW.
I'm amazed that Peter Taylor is out of work. He'd make a good technical man for England.

Peter Taylor has the problem that for Leicester he managed to moderately successful with the previous manager's team and then got relegated. Then he took over Brighton when they were already doing well and got them promoted. So really he hasn't achieved that much on his own.

Didn't Peter Taylor take a team (I think gillingham) from obsecurity to somewhere respectable. And also didn't he never lose a match while as manger of the England under 21s?

1) As England U21 I believe he only played qualifiers...
2) Gillingham are still doing well now and the premiership is alot different from lower leagues.
3) Brighton were already doing well in division 2 when he took over and then they won the division but he resigned because of not enough money.

Well he's just taken over at Hull. A 'sleeping giant' of a club. Lots of potential but doing awful at present.

Another sleeping giant that is reawakening (tenuous link) is my home town team of ACCRINGTON STANLEY. Look at the Unibond Premier League !!! (ok so we have to start the big comeback somewhere). In 5 seasons we can be in the Premiership!

You look at his record against that of Howard Wilkinson, who took over from him, and that will show you how good a coach he was.

They used to be a league club but then they were relegated or were reformed...

Go Grantham! Flying high in the Dr Martens premiership! Maybe we will get to play each other in the Fa trophy or even the FA cup.

"You look at his record against that of Howard Wilkinson" Wilkinson was the original subject of the thread for not being a very good manager...

I used to go out with a girl from Grantham (No not Margaret Thatcher). She became a Maths teacher.

Wonder what happened to her ....
