Angry You have been defeated during Mod play

Hi Everyone! HELP!

Some time ago, I created a Scandinavian map for Civ 4 and modded it with a Norwegian Civ and leader. Both the map and the Civ worked great in Vanilla, but I decided I wanted to try in BtS. I updated all the relevant info for a BtS mod and when I load the mod with out my Scandinavia map, it works just fine. I can play my custom Norway civ without problems on other maps. However when I try to load the Scandinavia map, everything functions fine (it doesn't crash), but just after the opening "since the dawn of time" screen, I get the "YOU HAVE BEEN DEFEATED" message. What's going on here? is there something special about BtS maps in comparasion to Vanilla ones? How can I get it to work like it did in Vanilla?
Please help!
I can send the mod and map if needed!
Thanks beforehand!

Just as an additonal note, the mod I created included a Russian civ that was completely unedited and simply a copied bunch of xml tags in to the appropriate files (Leaderheads, Civinfos, etc). This civ works fine and the game loads without the You have been defeated! message. You get the normal 1 warrior and 1 settler.

9 out of 10 times it means that the starting point of one of the settlers or a non settler someplace is where it should not be (ie water).

If you know how to check starting points, would be a good place to start, a good utility for checking is MapView.

This is simply not true. It's rare for a scenario maker to put a starting settler in the ocean, and would be flat out retarded. I've never heard, or experienced such a thing.

In my experience this has always been caused by the fact something in the mod's XML doesn't match what's in the WBS. For instance, assume you take a map made for default BtS which somewhere has a UNIT_NATIVE_DOG_SOLDIER unit placed somewhere. If the mod you are using does not have this unit defined in the XML (say they split the native americans into the Iroquois and Sioux, a common thing for mods to do), then this will return an error, and everything in the WBS file (the scenario) after the error is encountered will not be placed on the map, which means many or all cities and units will simply not be placed; if this leads to no settlers or cities of a civ being placed that civ will be considered dead on start up.

Tisk tisk. You should NEVER put that kind of stuff like that here, you should PM a person if you contradict them like that, its just not good for CFC.

I ONLY put stuff here, that i HAVE experienced, and as far as i noticed you have not played on my puter where stuff like this DOES happen, and i have seen ALOT of maps that do what i just said, that are older maps, so PLS stop saying this , thx. Again this is just MY personal situations.

EDIT: I am NO longer subscribed to this thread, so if you want to say something to me, PM thx.

Thanks for the replies guys! I seemed to have got it working again, but I'm not sure how. I have two copies of what I believe to be exactly the same map. One works and the other doesn't. I've skimmed through them as text files and they look identical, so I can't seem to figure out what the problem was, but nonetheless it works.
I appreciate you giving advice though...that's always good for CFC!
