Angry Getting above being pathetic

Okay I just finished a game as Xerxes of Persia. I did the race to space deal. I was more advanced then anyone else. I destroyed three civilizations. The last civilization besides me was Babylon and I was richer/more powerful/more civilized then them. My ranking score was 499. But at the end of the game whei gives your rank I was "The pathetic"

What the? I thought I had done really well in the game.

Its simple. These things are what decide your score.
1. Happy citizens
2. Land area
3. Diffilculty * 2050-(current year)

So basically increase your dificulty. Its the most important thing.

score 499? sounds like a pretty weak game to me either that or you played on the easiest setting i got i think (i'm not sure) a "great" rating only after winning a game and my score was over 1800 on regent maybe you should try on some harder difficulties.

Money, techs, wonders, and military don't add to your score, unfortunately. The score is only based on the # of happy and content people, specialists, and land size. And there is a bonus for finishing early. And the land size and # of happy/content people are averaged throughout the game. So if you spent alot of the early game with a small land area and low population/hapiness, you'll score lower.

You should read Sir Pleb's article 'How to Maximize your Score' in the strategy articles forum. That goes into further detail explaining Civ3's screwed up scoring system and how to maximize it ('milk' the score). I never pay attention to what the 'rank' (rank, not score) is because that doesn't take into account what map size you are playing and what victory condition you are aiming for. The victory bonus you get is not dependant on how you win, just when, and some victories like spaceship, UN, or culture are later in the game than domination or conquest for many players.

If you find you don't like Civ3's scoring system, you can always join the tournament at this site. The tournament aims for fast finishes instead of score. There are 5 divisions available for anyone from beginners to experts.

499 points? I've got almost as much for being clobbered by Gandhi in the Ancient Age! (On Monarch, I think.)

My top score is somethign like 5200, but I figure my present game'll beat that.

First of all, welcome here at CFC handstand!

I've got two points concerning your posts:
1. You can score higher than that if follow all the advice you can possibly get in the war academy.
2. I think it's possible to edit the names belonging to the ranking system

If you want to compare your score to the scores of some top players, you can take a look at the hall of fame.

One of my most disappointing games I played right after I downloaded the 1.29 patch. I started up a new game, and it was just going great. I was expanding like crazy, driving off other civs in wars, I'd built every single Wonder possible, and I was just having a blast.

Then I checked my histograph, and saw my score was about 200.

That was when I realized I was playing on Chieftain level rather than Monarch. I was sooo pissed.

It's pretty hard to get anything other than 'Pathetic' playing at Chieftain, even if you have a great game.

Check out the high score hall of fame thread, and compare the scores in each division (Diety thru Chieftain).

Well, seems to me that the higher level I play, the best score I get. Best is 6400 in Emperor.

Just a hint: Firaxis rewards genocide conquest...

The best score i've ever had on cheiftain is 1444, i was quite surprised. In sometime like the late 1800's or early 1900's i won with the culture win. It came out of nowhere and caught me off guard, but i couldn't argue with that score.

I dont like the current scoring system, if you genocide every A.I pretty fast you can get a very high score, like 4000 and beeing Magnificient. But if you climb up the tech tree, trade a lots with A.I, keep a good reputation and win a space race then you got only 2000 point and not so magnificient.

That reminds me. My high score for some time was a Emporer game that I lost. I managed to stay alive the whole game but lost the space race (I didn't even have rocketry). It took me quite a while to beat that score on Monarch level.

My high score currently is around 2800. I definitely won't top that in my current game either, since I'm around 1700 points and it's almost 1940.

I always thought that it was quite bizarre that the people would remember you as 'pathetic' or even 'magnificent', considering that we're talking about a guy that has lived for about 6000 years. It would be more likely that they'd talk about 'the long-lived' or 'the immortal'...

Actually, most of the Leaders are about 6,000 years old. Must be the free health care.
