Would you win this? (Emperor, Izzy)
Its Isabella, year 1930, Emperor difficulty lvl, Fractals standard, Epic speed. I used BUG mod but I believe it can be loaded anywhere. Events off.
I played this game to the end and I lost (not gonna spoil how&why :P ) I do believe I did fairly well approximately up to the point posted here. I started isolated, lost liberalism race, circumnavigation race, you_name_it race. First traded tech was... Physics if I recall. Means approximatelly up to physics I researched everything on my own. Anybody wanna try to win from this point? I'm really curious if the game was doomed from the very earlier, or did I still have a fair chance... And yes I'm still gona try it again myself from this save, but still interested how others would play.

Why did you lose?
One freaking airplane in your fleet. One freaking worker in your empire when you could be turning all those lovely mines to windmills and switching to environmentalism. But it's basically your stack - it's too small.

![]() And the fleet, yes, below any criticism... but I was in hurry. Joao is about to launch, that is >:[ I lost because of Joao obviously.

I think the issue here is JoaII is one part short from a space launch!! The stack is neither here nor there. I doubt those units will take on modern infantry and other units.

There is the option of sabotaging space builds with JoaII. Not sure what espionage points Corn had.

Spoiler:
All hills, unless they have resources, are windmilled. That way even my production cities contribute to my research. Besides, switching two mines to windmills allows me to switch a farm to a workshop or 3 mines for 2 watermills. Environmentalism is a very good civic. It is almost as productive as State Property and you can generate more commerce than Free Market in some maps (like this one).

Looks pretty nice
Gotta try it some time... As for this game, I lost it again, twice, so just gave up. The problem as I understand it is that I was trying both to go for space earlier than Joao and to build units to kill Joao. Ended up with incomplete space ship and halfassed army.

For the record, you can teleport Fighters into Carriers from anywhere in the world. You also have many Missile Cruisers near Joaos coast, you could sneakily use his cities (maybe Faro or Coimbra) to load up some Cruise Missiles.
For the fight use Fighters for air defence till your troops reach the capital, then throw all your Fighters and Missiles at the city. As Joao's Fighters have C1, you will lose a lot. It'll be best to stock a few spares in your home cities to replace as needed. Still not going to be a walk in the park taking that capital though! Tried it after, and it went suprisingly well! I set the economy to all out war dropping the slider to 0% and started on the diplo front. I bought coal off someone, as well as a few Mining Inc resources (including more Coal! ) built up Coal Plants and spread Mining Inc to another city or two. Then I built up my forces with Mech Inf, Modern Armour and Mob Arts making up the land forces, as the capital is landlocked MArines weren't going to be very useful! I also built my navy up with Transports and Carriers (nothing Else!), rushbuy came in handy to get things flowing quickly. On your units, I upgraded lots of the units in cities to save on and moved most of your navy toward Joao's capital (and used his city to arm those 5 Missile Cruisers )After I decided my time was up I swapped the cities to building Jet Fighters and Cruise Missiles, tons of them. then something strange happened, I was somehow forced into a war with Joao and Suleiman, probably through defensive pacts I guess, but much of the world ended up declaring on someone, Saladin and Frederick joined me against Joao ![]() In 1947 my stack reached Lisbon, artillery fired first, all surviving jet fighters from my Carriers then every Cruise Missile I had in my arsenal, the stack rolled through Lisbon easily after that. ![]() Whats interesting though, is that I don't think Joao had even launched yet . I was pressured to attack by the sudden DoWs.Its not over yet though, Suleiman is picking up speed building parts, and is quite a bit ahead. He however lacks some vital techs. The wars will slow down his space efforts hopefully, but the loss of all 3 Coal sources I bought is painful.... hopefully I can charge on and distract him using the surviving ships and building up a few ships and Cruise Missiles for coastal defences. I'll add a few of the saves on the way if your interested. Last edited by Ghpstage; Dec 08, 2009 at 03:06 PM. |

Good job! Thanks for playing it and I'd certainly be interested in saves. Considering that I failed twice replaying from this save...

Got the saves, they are however a bit disorganised as the only one I actually made was the 1947 one after razing Lisbon, the rest I salvaged from autosaves.
Even at this point the game is far from won yet, Mehmed is motoring toward his space launch, and judging by tech situation, Saladin and Freddy will capitulate to Joao quickly, so it will likely be 4v1 .Also, the naval fleet that landed the Lisbon raiding force is going to get wiped out, my only idea is to move them south to buy a turn to move the Jet Fighters back to home cities, Stealth Bombers are hitting the ones on the island in the West anyway. On the plus side, Joao's city Coimbra has the Space Elevator, and there should be enough left over troops from Lisbon to at least take it and hold it a while!
