Probably the search function has been temporarily disabled by TF to reduce server load. So that the forums don't crash as much as it was prone to doing in the past few weeks.

yeah, the search feature uses up lots of server resource. I will re-enable it in a day or two.

Without the thing for showing the new threads, I feared I would have to look through the whole of the forums to find something new and interesting. I forgot that it puts newer stuff first
