Music from the Oracle?

Had this rare option come up recently while I was finishing up literature for the obvious wonder when Confucianism got founded and no one had built the Oracle. Tempting to try to get philo from it but was it worth the risk? Has anyone seen something this unusual before? I was looking at dyes with a discount on settlers. I couldn't do the math but love to REX myself into a deep hole. (City 3 pulled in the GLH.) I took music, used the artist to bulb drama so those cheap theatres could be used to whip into fast settlers while gaining double happiness with a philo bulb setup. Just bizzare.

I find it amazing that drama still had more value than a golden age at that point. Spiritual?

No. Feeling a happiness pinch and dyes. With a discount on settlers that's like insta-50 hammers per theatre whip. More space seemed better than a golden age. Also opened up a philo bulb with the great lighthouse working. (No courthouses for awhile means no philo except via drama.)

personally drama is what 500 beakers depending on your difficulty that is not worth a great artist a golden age is much better although you could save it for a while to let your civilisation enlarge and to get to pacifisim, use it when you need some civic changes eg civil service

What difficulty were you playing at (seem that the Oracle went late for a higher difficulty game)? Generally speaking, I can't see much of a scenario where I wouldn't take Philo (and founding Taoism) over Music. You can always tech/trade Monarchy and switch to HR to deal with happiness issues.

I was playing Gheghis on an archipelago at monarch. After a lot of epic games I decided to play down a level to get used to the speed change. Philo was too risky try for and the barracks/theatre combo was a nice substitute for courthouses. Cough. Cough. Ended up bulbing philo and most of astro before going back for the liberalism path. The GLH/GL was really nice without courthouses. Had a bakers dozen around 750 AD. Let Augustus keep stone and mids so I could still trade with him. Spice and deer was enough to satisfy me for awhile. He did not have iron and DoWed me when I had phants and cats. Monarch is a bit too easy. BTW it was Mansa that researched Confucianism.

No problem. Game got real decent. Won liberalism with the choice of: Physics, Communism or Civil Service. Ah! The wonders of a trade route economy and cottages combined--with a little deft bulbing. Happiness and health can go very far. Celebrated by settling a horse site for the UU.
