Corporal Punishment

(Didn't see a thread on this, so I figured I'd make it so people would stop derailing the Altered Maps thread)

What are your thoughts on corporal punishment? Where should it be allowed? Where should it be banned? What should it be limited to?

I think it should be limited to the household. Apart from a police officer or similar government official, nobody has a right to lay a hand on a person's kids apart from their parents.

I primarily support spanking. Slapping should be used sparingly and only used should the child say something incredibly disrespectful(say, the kid tells the parent to eff off). Beating is a barbaric activity and all those who perform it should be arrested accordingly.

Legally, as punishment for crime, I'm not really sure.

slapping is not recommended. spanking is also not recommended. i prefer the gentle way. or to hurt their feelings somehow.

I have found it useful to keep unruly 18-28 year olds in line.

I believe that would discourage most offenders.

I support the following methods of corporal punishment,

The rod. A thin, flexible rod is often called a switch.
The birch, a number of strong, flexible branches of birch or similar wood, bound together with twine into a single implement.
The rattan cane
The paddle, a flat wooden board with a handle, with or without holes.
The strap. A leather strap with a number of tails at one end, called a tawse,
The whip, typically of leather. Russian knout and South African sjambok, in addition to the scourge and the French martinet.
The cat o' nine tails .
The hairbrush and belt
The plimsoll or gym shoe,
Striking
Punching
Pushing, pulling
Slapping
Whipping
Striking with an object
Excessive pinching on the body
Kicking
Making someone fall
Kneeing
Strangling
Headbutting
Drowning
Sleep deprivation
Exposure to cold, freezing
Exposure to heat or radiation, burning
Exposure to electric shock
Placing in stress positions (tied or otherwise forced)
Cutting or otherwise exposing somebody to something sharp
Exposure to a dangerous animal
Throwing or shooting a projectile
Exposure to a toxic substance
Infecting with a disease
Withholding food or medication
Blinding a person or causing impairment of sight.
Biting

If they still haven't learned, then you're not hitting them hard enough.
