I vote SW. Put 'em flippers on.

On the up side, we don't have to worry so much about barbs. Hopefully there'll be tons of barb galleys to harass the trireme-deprived.

Another up side is that early border pops won't be a huge priority. If we get The Oracle in Delhi, its culture will envelope nearly the entire island (assuming there aren't ample green fields, corn and pigs to the south)

Vote for 1 S. And where the warrior is standing now looks like a solid site for city number 2.

Warrior should move 1S, the only tile extra revealed by 1SE would be revealed soon enough anyway. Also, on city placement although it would be nice to have a city with both rice in the BFC, due to lack of land we may need to have 2 cities each working one rice. Potentially a production city 2N of the closest rice and a commerce city working the western rice...

Turn 5 - 3800 BC

We've got another weird river mouth to the south, and an island (continent?) to our southwest. I guess Sailing is probably higher up on our priority list. Should the warrior go south again?

Here are the demographics - can anyone confirm that the GNP, MFG, and CY are the same from previous turns?

The main difference in the demographics is in land area.

We have to absolutely sell out for the Oracle to MC to colossus.
Colossus gives us not much advantage here, except for denial purposes to the financials. We get poor commerce increase with it, and with 0 sea-food here, the best we can do is invest a bunch of hammers into a silly lighthouse, just to work a food-neutral tile. That's just terrible...

It may be better to run merchants, with rep bonus in that case.

I bet the bare grass hills north of our 2 rice has a resource. The island appears to be symmetrical, except for those 2 tiles to the northeast. It looks like the map creator needed to kludge in 2 more resources.

edit: Which means the riverside plains hills to the west also has a resource, otherwise whatever the northeast resource is, would have been placed there.

Another dumb backwards river? They already edited the WB To fix the one by our capital, and didn't check the one 5 tiles away?

Intentional mistake just to stir the pot?

Warrior move 1 S or 1 SE makes no difference, so might as well keep to the coast. And it looks as though sailing is going to be high on our list of things to tech, probably right after all of the MC sling techs are in.

If there's no seafood to our south, then I see no point to the Colossus other than for denial purposes. If we have copper I could see maybe, maybe going for it to deny it to the FIN leaders, but making ourselves a bigger target to the others ( *cough* Ragnar *cough*) doesn't appeal to me.

I guess we'll be going south again.

I really would like to see a seafood resource. I suppose we'll get a couple of whales as compensation.

Another thing that intrigues me ... we have 5 dyes, and we have 5 rivals (though we should keep 1 dye to ourselves). Perhaps each team gets 1 of its own calendar resources as a monopoly?

Ragnar would have to attack us sufficiently well before they get Astronomy. Or it would defeat the whole point of going after it. Anyhow, they will most likely think WE are going after it, so the joke's on them when we don't. I bet when they see us with Oracle --> MC (if we get it), they'll give up on that not wanting to lose a lost race... only to find out much, much later that it's been taking forever for us to get it. Then they all will face-palm, haha!

Sailing definately looking like a high priority here. Hopefully our landmass extends a bit to the south but from what i can see it looks to be thinning out :S

Totally agree with this analysis. Of course, the GH to the NE could have just been for capital site pro'n padding, and we may have no metal at all, but I find that very unlikely. Otherwise, our island does appear to be the 38+2 BBFC style island, and my intuition screams a kind of spoke-and-hub-sans-hub arrangement. If the other teams have a similar setup, triremes will dominate.

Something I'm wondering about is that as of yet there isn't actually anywhere for a trireme to get across. All those other coastal tiles are separated from us by ocean...and if I'm guessing the rest of the island right it doesn't look like it will connect.

EDIT: Here's a speculative dotmap I threw together simply because I love dotmaps

Each color represents a city...those two are red because settling one excludes the other. The yellow is very changable depending on what shows up in the fog.

Btw if now is not the time for dotmaps let me know...I'm not quite familiar with planning in these games...

We can reach that island to the south east because Delhi's cultural spread allows us to travel on non-coastal tiles.

As far as the dotmap goes, I'd only concern myself with the northern sites until the rest is scouted.

The green one I'd really like to move 1S to get more land tiles and an extra food source. We can settle another city that will share the 2nd food source.

I'm fine with overlap, but that seems a little extreme to me -- we will have a pretty high happy cap if things go as planned (*fingers crossed*). With Gems + Gems Forge Bonus + Representation + Religion, we should be able to get up to 9 or 10 pop or something. Of course, it depends on how many specialists we run too.

Okay, I wasn't aware of that rule concerning ocean travel.

As for the green dot, the trouble with moving it south is that it would prevent us from settling that plains hill that everyone seems so interested in settling. Depending on what shows up though with BW, AH, and scouting moving the green dot 1S and the western red dot 1S might work
