Any SSI Players out there?
I've started reinstalling the SSI general games in a fit of nostalgia.Sadly, a lot of the rsource sites are gone, most notably The Armory. Narayan's 5 Star site is still up though. I'm looking mainly for another Pacific General site, if one exists where I can find some of the contenet from the Armory, most notably the SSI Campaign replacement fixes. Any help would be appreciated.

Maybe, google would probably help you find some because I haven't the slightest clue as to what you are talking about.

Done that. I may have been born at night but it wasn't last night. But thanks for your "I don't have anything useful to say but I'll say something anyway" post.

My post was actually a question, the question being what the bloody hell is SSI?

well I got Fantasy General to play on Windows XP with some downloaded files but I ain't losing sleep over it since I still own the original CD which I paid for and the original handbook as well. you'll be hard pressed to get these older games to work on modern computers without somebody altering the source files.
if you want to know what SSI is, as regards pc gaming, I stumbled across the most amazing site the other day. wikiominapoteia.... vickytheviking..... tip of my tongue....

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Server_Side_Includes
http://www.divessi.com/ http://ssi.org/ Alternatively, the OP could explain what the hell his post is about (although I did realize after my first post he was asking for any other fan sites but still, if we don't know what it is we can't help him).

no idea how you google but googling for "SSI Pacific General" (bot included in the OP) got me this as the first hit
http://www.peachmountain.com/5star/PAG_Index.asp and this as the second hit (in German in my case, linked to the English page for your convenience) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Panzer_General wow, that was really a bit of sleuthing I did there. I took something from the thread title, something that was repeated in the OP and then I actually read the OP for an additional clue and I entered them into a fairly unknown search engine. I should be earning money doing this. or, you know, people who know what he is talking about and who have actually been there give some input asm opposed to a "lolwut?". weird idea, I know. then again I don't post in every durn thread. not that you do but in this case... you kinda did

If its a post and I have no idea what they are talking about, ie by not being clear and/or not giving any or much info then it usually ends up ignored.
And I don't post in every durn thread here, though it would be nice if there was a little bit mroe activity so I'd have more variety.

it is a bit weird that a gaming site has such an abandoned games subsection, aye.

There are still some decent resources as far as panzer general 2 and people's general go.
http://www.pegww2.net/ contains conversions of the people's general engine to dozens of different campaigns. Most of the campaigns cover world war 2, but there are some pre and post-ww2 campaigns on the site. It's really amazing work. You can also look up panzer general 2 on wikipedia to find some good links, including Luis Guzman's OpenPG2 engine. I think if you google panzer general 2 you can also find a site with a lot of downloads related to all the panzer general games (including pacific general). |

SSI
They made some really good games of which the Panzer General series were some. I also liked Imperialism and Imperialism II. I'd check with Wargamer.com to see if they have any links or goodies for your Panzer General games. The Armory and Narayan's 5 Star sites were great resources for modkits and other addons for these games. Hope this helps. |

Gary Grisby was my favorite. I think the only modern heir is Matrix Games (though maybe Paradox Interactive as well).
