Weel, not map or save was added, so I will add my RPC link

http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=271393

While not exactly according to the stated rules, pretty close.

In addition this game

http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=320417

Was a Terra map conquest (all dead, no vassals) although the new world was simply used as a hiding place for the Ais until I got around to killing them.

A saved game would have been nice.

Lol,

1. Turn off vassal states = no colonial maintenance.
2. Speed bulb for astro/communism.
3. Spam out cities + workshops in the new world like crazy.
4. Turn off domination
5. Kill people at leisure.

People should be able to accomplish this at whatever difficulty they can usually beat.

I'll give it a spin if we get a scenario save. I like terra maps and 3 cities in the old world is how I usually play them anyway.

Not sure I understood the challenge - if it's to cover the whole new world with culture before any of the AI even gets there I don't think that's possible. Taking over the whole new world as the victory condition is fair enough though. Bring it on.

What I mean by culture of the new world.

OK, sounds fair enough. We have to own the entire new world before taking any AI cities on the old world.

And the new world is defined as all land masses not connected to the old world supercontinent? Or just the "north america" + "south america" supercontinent?

Just rereading the OP you said "standard or huge map" which suggests you're not planning to post a start to play from. Seriously, I don't think many people will join in if there's no map. A "challenge" on here normally means everyone plays the same map and compares strategies. There has to be just that slight competitive whiff of testosterone

I'm not interested in ticky tack crap trick maps.

Spoiler:

Game Over. If you settle the immediate coast assuming you can build ships, you lose, or at least must resort to annoying things like gifting cities away. I'm not in the mood for it. Coast trick isn't fun.

@TMIT:

Spoiler:
That obsolete style ranting in every thread these days doesn't really suit you. You're better off being that nice guy people still remember you as. Just saying.

Edit: I'm not saying you're necessarily "ranting" in this thread but in most others you are. And it really looks like you caught it from obsolete because it's almost identical to his hissyfits, which in all honesty, are of way more comedy value than he'd probably like.

What a wild way with words!

Rather annoying though. I just restarted after I settled the capital and the cheap ticky tack trick was revealed. Ho ho. Now knowing the map here are the 3 cities I chose:

I may play on later, but I don't fancy it much now the map has been increased to large instead of standard. That's going to be a hard slog, and also I don't think 3 old world cities is enough. There's plenty of land left around us but we just have to sit twiddling our thumbs till astronomy.

Anyway come on R0gue. It's good form if the challenge-setter takes the first crack at it....

Monarch? 3 cities only? What to do...

Spoiler:

And can you not build the Apostolic Palace if Diplomatic is disabled?

AP and UN can not be constructed if diplomatic victories are disabled.

I thought about going wonderspam in this game but it seemed like speed astro would be the better calling card, given monarch's lowish maintenance, our traits, and our restrictions. With civil service and ASAP guilds back-trade it shouldn't be too hard to shop/farm the new world into a force rapidly...esp if you get communism soonish (can probably get it or at least sci-meth off lib).

As for ranting, I apologize, I've had a bad run of luck in the game as of late and it's showing. There are some things in this game that truly tire me however (basically spawns and RNG screw/godgift), and that's why I just don't game-spam like I used to do. Nevertheless, I'll try to at least keep the ranting centered on useful info.

Which brings us back to this game. Two areas of coast - both north and south - are actually large inland lakes sufficient to be treated by coast in the game, but do not allow the construction of naval units. This is particularly frustrating as the northern one can actually access the ocean through a fort bridge (and where I settled, I could make a fort bridge at 40% which I'd have long before astro). Apparently "coastlakes" allow for construction of lighthouse/harbor but do *not* allow work boats, galleys, or other naval units.

IMO, frustration over settling 2 "coastal" cities on 2 different "coasts" and still being unable to build any naval units is understandable in this case.

Yeah this sucks. I never found the freshwater/seawater/boatbuildable crossover points intuitive at all. At least they could have made it so smaller boats could be built on smaller areas of water, which would have made some sense (i.e a galley has a shallower draft than a destroyer), but all boats require 20.

yes its a very difficult challenge, I have tried the map many different ways, but the AI is just to powerful. Having only 3 cities on the old world is way to limiting. By the time you get to the new world, the AI has to many cities to destroy, and is far to powerful.

Instead of a large map with stupid "fake" coast, try the map I have attached.

It's still Vicky, except I made it a normal map. And the coast is really coast. As in boats can sail on the water it is connected to.

It's still a challenge, just a more reasonable one.

Edit: just realize that I should have turned huts off. Let me try this again....

Ok, now a map with no huts and no random events. And, a quick glance at the world builder tells me that this one looks challenging.

If you want it to be a challenge, everyone should have an equal game. Huts and random events make it less about individual play and more about luck.

Should probably set it to "always peace" so you don't win by "lucky" combat rolls.

Seriously, there is so much RNG in this game that complaining about Huts and Events seems totally pointless.
