Ranged combat
Well, the concept is sporked from the older games like Fantasy general, and so on.
What's surprising is that they sporked only a part of it, and it does not seem to work too well. In Fantasy general, when ranged unit attacks a ranged unit, the defender retaliates - it seems only logical to me. Therefore, the "free shot" of civ 5 goes away. Also, ranged units provide fire support to adjacent melee units when those are attacked in melee - a nice feature promoting formation advance. Also, these games featured skirmishers that attacked only adjacent units, and only skirmishers could strike back (more complexity), as well as other interesting unit classes. I don't understand why Firaxis must reinvent the wheel by creating an obviously inferior hybrid (hint: poor AI?). |

Yeah I totally just spam (insert heavy artillery unit from each era) and it's laughable. Everything just dies.
