Some of the stuff I'm reading here borders on the bizarre. Fact is, Civ 5 is playable, enjoyable and in much better shape than Civ 4 or Civ 3 was on release.

Some screenshots of my current game -

1) Geneva took a Greek city, and held it all by themselves. Or at least, I didn't help in any way.

2) Siam starts sending elephants (neverending amounts) over the med sea, after losing tons of them on my citadel blockpoint.

3) Siam making demands of me, even after I've taken 2 of their cities.

More screens to follow.

4) Japan attacking my ally. The AI does attack with overwhelming odds. Not a thing I could do to stop them here.

5) I'm behind in points, but still keeping close on techs.

6) Siam and Japan are so large they don't fit on a screen.

What is all this whining about?

Increase the level. This is Emperor level, large map on epic speed and the game is great. Of course it's not perfect and the AI does stupid stuff, but didn't it always?

As for the supposed issues, the game has not crashed once. Not once. Yes the rivers look a little stupid...that will be fixed for sure.

The only bug I've seen is a single square-shaped piece of land in one hex in the water. Apart from that, it's been totally fine.

I'm running all medium settings, dx10 with an ATI 4770 and a quad core intel cpu (q6600 - you can buy a phenom II thats faster and cheaper these days and it will run perfect).

Nice screenshots. I would like to learn how to get my Civs to be that large without suffering too much unhappiness. I think the strategy is basically to limit the size of the cities so that they only have enough to work the most useful tiles. That seems to be what the computer is doing here, with only two cities for Siam above six pop.

Well I'm not sure if it's anything to do with that. I think Siam might have an overpowered trait (even though it doesn't look like it at first glance). Also, their elephants are remarkably overpowered :p You can't go near them with anything and are totally forced onto the back foot until riflemen I guess. Not even my Musketeers are standing much of a chance.

People need to increase the level a little bit. I played Civ4 Prince for fun and Monarch when I wanted a "challenge", without feeling like I was playing a spreadsheet. Emperor feels a lot like Monarch in Civ 4 did before I learned to play.

People really need to increase the difficulty to see the AI working reasonably.

nice screen shots. I mostly played on emperor/epic in previous versions and the transition is fairly smooth, I agree. I had a great game going with the Greeks where I had a ton of city state allies giving me all kinds of great bonuses, really I was owning the AI's technologically. I think maybe the difficulty is a tad off, but not bad. It took me all of 5 years to win on Immortal on civ4, I'm gonna give it a try soon here on civ5. I actually didn't even finish my game because of a crash, but i reported it at the 2k forums, its the only serious one I've seen yet and I think I've already logged over 50 hrs.

i think im gonna try emperor.

My current game is on prince and my mechanized infantry fighting swordsman of askia( i think that thier civ name), longbow men of england, rifleman, musketman and other low level units is not fun

your game looks way more interesting than mine atm.

The only thing that's gone seriously wrong in this game was Siam trying to ragequit vs me once. All other times they have demanded all my stuff for peace, but once they offered to give me everything.

I think that might have something to do with losing the lead, either in overall score or power, because Japan might have overtaken them at some point during the turn.

Anyway, if you know it's broken, just don't use it. I took peace but didn't take any cities or resources, so the game can continue without me feeling i've cheated.
