I'm not entirely sure that Krepost is good for Cultural. It doesn't generate more culture - it just allows you to claim more tiles per city. By the same token America's Manifest Destiny is good for cultural victories, too.

Trickster7135:

Paeanblack's already used India for an ICS Space Race victory, and using India seems to be the fastest way to do it, since he can have size 13 ICS cities, where other Civs would only have 6 or 7.

Ok, had a look. Started a list before giving up. I'll (or a mod can) delete this wall of text tomorrow some time. No point this ruining the comments or suggestions of others.
EDIT: Deleted WOT

I see that as more useful for "block and backfill." Americans should have an easy time walling off a chunk of territory for future expansion, and have less need to expand into it right away. We may be thinking of the same thing in different terms, though. Great guide, by the way.

Thank you so much! You're not an English major, are you?

I suppose the problem is that we're using Civ4 terminology for Civ5. Expanding your borders by buying tiles with gold is not the same thing as expanding your borders by dropping new cities, but they both are a form of 'expansion', which can be 'rapid' depending on how much you prioritize it.

No, to be honest I copied and paste into Word and ran spell check! I know enough from high school for basic grammar and spelling but I'm not particularly good on it. The English language is too complicated with it's crazy rules and mixed French, German, Latin, etc words and spelling.

In Civ 5, a cultural victory is unlocking social policies and then building the Utopia project as opposed to just the land grab of Civ 4. While I see your point about helping grab land which may mean less cities are required to get some extra resources, it really doesn't have a direct impact on attaining the cultural victory. It's more indirect and really a matter of luck, as you won't always have resources a just a few tiles away that you can wait that long for natural border expansion.

Well I was talking about America's leader trait, and how it helped normal, non-ICS expansion. I noted in it's description I already think it doesn't help a cultural victory. Instead, America's leader trait helps a non-cultural victory type that isn't ICS grab resources and spread it's borders.

I was more referring to the Krespost description.

I'm pretty new to Civ in general (played a little bit of Civ 3), so this guide was tremendously helpful.

And thank you Praytella for tightening up the grammar, which was my only complaint.

I'm curious to see if the ICS strategy is going to be nerfed in the/a upcoming patch, but you got the gist of it down pretty good.

Thanks for the hard work on the guide, it will help me out with the higher difficulties, especially with the military promotion analysis.

It's not mentioned, but parking a both a naval and a ranged unit in a coastal city allows for three ranged defensive attacks in a turn against invaders. There may come situations where the extra firepower is worth it.

I've never thought of doing that, but you're right. That's a good tip.

Granted that Maritime city-states do things empire-wide, I think that looking at Granaries and Watermills from the perspective of growth is actually slightly off. I'd look at them more in the sense of 2 food=1 specialist rather than 2 food shaves x turns off of growth. Of course, that will only really come into its own when Maritime city-states get beat down with the nerf bat.

My city screen says a Bank gives two specialist slots, not one.

I am only pointing this out because of the irony of Praytella's comment about noticing spelling/grammar errors and quoting the sentence above.

Perhaps you meant:
The Russian civilization has a unique building and a unique unit; the first is a powerful enhancement to a warmongering cultural strategy?

Spellcheck would never identify this since encampment is spelled correctly.

I salute you for the work put into posting all of this information and appreciate the time and effort you put into it. I wish my word processory would save to a .PDF format. I would love to print it out for ease of reference while playing.

Thanks for the tips. I certainly learned a couple of things that I am eager to try out in my next sessions.

Thank you for finding that error

LOLz. Well in my defence I went back and just ran spellcheck, copy and pasting as I went.

Have you tried something like doPDF? You can 'print' your work document to a pdf file. I'm not sure if thats what you meant.

Another comment on America:

Quote:
The leader trait doesn't have a lot of synergy for a warmonger, other than the sight bonus, as conquered cities retain their cultural boundaries, meaning most nearby resources will already be connected.
It does have synergy, though, with the "Raze and Resettle" approach -- with America, it's ultimately cheaper to burn a city, settle, and buy tiles than to spend a bunch of time building a Courthouse and paying 5 gpt/each once built.

America does not need the Tradition tree, and can focus more on Liberty and Freedom first.
