New DLC's this Monday...

I don't think they're released yet. But before they are, I have a question.

How do you go about purchasing and downloading them? Is it done thru the game itself or do I have to navigate thru the Steam interface to find them?

I'm just curious. I've never obtained DLC content before and wanted to know how it works.

Oh, and... I can't wait!! (sweet, civ5 smilies)

Well they do it through Steam just like another 2K game Mafia 2 does: http://store.steampowered.com/search/?term=mafia+2

Dear DLC content producer,

Please stop. I already paid $50.00 for this game that doesnt quite work right. Please fix the game and stop trying to get me to spend more money.

Thank you.

If they release a ten civilisations pack with some scenarios, all for 10 bucks, explaining Babylon price was only not to insult buyers of deluxe civ, some threads will totally fall into the category : utter flamming.

What's the advantage of buying the civs versus downloading the free mods? Other than the artwork, etc.

It seems that the mods can only be done in single player, is this the same with downloaded civs? Or am I totally wrong...

No, you are right, the advantage is the audio, the artwork, perhaps Steam achievements.

I must say I like the idea of getting some civs early before the actual (big) expansion arrives. As long as this ridiculously high price is a one time bit because it's Babylon, I am going to buy it. Not gonna do this a second time though.

One civ one dollar would be acceptable, I think, if they correctly convert the price to euros. 1$ would still be much money, but four or five civs packaged with some scenarios and/or a gameplay element or two bundled together for five bucks would be reasonable. After all, I still buy the big expansion afterwards, if a bit later because it's overpriced.

I like the effect of seeing a new face every now and then, especially because of the professional artwork, it keeps the game fresh. All new leaders at once is almost a waste of Santa Claus feeling

What I do not like is the low number of speech bits for every leader. They repeat *over and over*. An alternative recording or two for each phrase would dramatically change my perception at least in bigger games, because there are so many languages involved. But one version is just not enough, it seems like a lack of effort (although I am ignorant as to the real effort and cost involved here).

In general, however, I like the artwork very much, and I also like the basic gameplay ideas. A second cIV would have been just dull, people will play cIV for five or ten more years anyway, because it has become so good. ciV as a genuine new beginning is *much* better, as long as the flaws are taken care of in due time.

I'm not quite sure what to make of the art direction in Civ5. I like the Art Deco stuff, particularly the icons. I really like most of the unit graphics, though they seem a bit plain after the wild variety of units in the latest VD mod. I can't stop raving about the smooth, natural looking terrain.

The leader graphics, though, aren't so great. They are much blander and accompanied by a much less striking variety of music than the Civ4 leaders. Despite being lower resolution and technically lower quality I find the Civ4 leaders to be more beautiful and memorable.

Yeah, I swear, the leaders call EVERYTHING a "trade agreement," I like that they're animated and full screen, but I figured if they were gonna go through the trouble of getting voice actors for all these different languages, they would at least give them more than like 3 lines.

I cannot find any of the DLCs for Civ 5. Where are they? I was going to get the Babs but I cannot find and am waiting for the Mongols.

There is a very easy solution. If you don't want something, don't buy it.

Also, it is likely that there is probably a number of people at Firaxis that are dedicated to content that have nothing to do with coding and patches. They need something to do, too. So we're getting patches and DLC. It's all progress.

I think for me the ciV leader presentation adds quite a bit of immersion. There was almost nothing of a throne room in cIV, now there are throne, beach, temple, the likes, and I feel like I really visit Monty on his heap of skulls (is there such a heap actually? ).

After the comic-like leaders of cIV, I think it was time for something more serious. Both approaches fit their games.

Patience
Remember at what time Civ5 was available at release ? I guess DLC will be here at about the same time.
