No resource from allied CS?

I'm allied with a CS that has aluminum connected but they wont give me the aluminum. What am I missing? FYI, they are located on their own island not connected to me. I tried a harbor but that didnt work.

Are they working the tile? Have you researched Electricity? Do you have out-of-date mods installed?

I don't think you'll get it until someone else also researches electricity. In my games, anyway, getting aluminum / oil / whatever didn't happen until many turns after I discovered the relevant tech.

Maybe the CS itself must discover Electricity to make it available.

I believe this is the case...CS's lag behind somewhat in tech so you can see that they have it but it technically hasn't been linked up since they can't see it.

I've seen the opposite occur as well...an allied CS gets to Iron Working before you and you get the pop-up saying they've gifted it but it doesn't show as being available until you research it too.

Thanks for the answers. I'll have to play around with whether it was the CS or a second nation that discovered the tech. I was pretty far ahead tech wise so that makes sense.

Are you sure to be allied?

Sometimes, you have enough influence points for allied status, but another civ having even more, which means that you effectively stay at "being friends".

I've been allowed to build catapults (which require iron) using gifted iron, even when I haven't discovered iron working. So it doesn't *show* as available, but it is available.
