what's the best version of Civ 2

ATM I have the original Civ 2 but I am tired of the bugs (particularly, the one where a cruise missle attacks a square with an AEGIS and a battleship and Civ 2 decides to use my battleship as the defensive unit and gets both killed).

Out of all the versions (ie: Civ 2 gold and TOT, etc), I'm just wondering which I should get, do they even fix bugs?

I brought Civ CTP during a trip to Malaysia for $4 but I stopped playing it the second I saw the animated units, and how slow they made the game (what everyone said about it influenced me too).

Oh, forgot to ask, ARE there any patches for the orginal version of Civ 2?

If your gonna get a civII game, do NOT get TOT. First of all, it doesn't even have a scenario editor. Second of all, it only has a couple of movies. Third of all, the graphics may be better, but they're way too dark. You can't even see if there is a road on that grassland or not. And last of all, the music STINKS!!!!!! See the music thread.

The best verson is the verson I have

It may be hard to find Civ gold edition for pc, atleast I didnt find it anywhere. And I read somewhere it has some bugs too. And Civ III is coming quite soon. Well not too soon

For single player civ2 calssic with patches (2.42 version??) if you like senarios add Fantastic Worlds, etc.

for multiplayer civ2 MGE with 1.3 patch. This one comes with FW and Best of the Net senarios, but the AI is better suited to multiplayer, it is much more hostile to human players.

Hrm, found the 2.42 patch, it's bloody hard to find it when civ2.com and civilization2.com lead to ****ing hadbro's usless piece of **** page

I thought the patches were available for download at this site, Check the main page and to get to downloads. If not here try Apolyton (its link is in the link section here).

There is a link to Microprose Support Site in "About the Game" section of Civ2, and I just added links to all patches in the Civ2 Downloads Collection.

Yer I know, I found a link to the microprose site in the "how to multiplay" section of this site.

My point is tho, if you follow the official links (civ2.com civilization2.com), you are offered no support except for an ad to buy the game, and I think that just about sums up hasbro's attitude to games and those who play them.

Anyway, that microprose site is real slow, you can get the patches much faster from cdrom.com, here's a link:

Civilization II update 2.42:

The microprose page is here: http://support.microprose.com/civii.htm

Multiplayer Gold Edition is the best version

Wow, www.civii.com is down. Been a long time since I had to Download the patch. You can also get alot of patches from www.zone.com, if they support the game, and they support Civ2 Gold MPE. Oh, never mind, I just checked it out, and unless the civii.com site is just down for maintenance the patch isn't avail that way either.
My vote goes to Civilization 2 Gold Multiplayer Edition. I have that and Civilization 2, the Fantasy add-on pack, Civilization:Call to Power, and Call to Power 2.

I got the German version of CivII Gold , v1.2. Has anybody an idea where to get an update for this one???
Thx

Thanks for the patches URL Thunderfall.

I notice they don't have any patches for my version which is 2.7.8.
I guess that means that my version is the best!

Thanks for the link, Cedric! eToys seems like a very good place to buy games.
