FA/Military Discussion: Our next enemy?

This thread is to discuss our next moves diplomatically and militarily.

It is my opinion that the Americans should be our next conquest, for two main reasons. First, their lands are within relatively close proximity to our capital, meaning that they would be reasonably productive. Second, our border cities are closely packed, and would make a quick attack very feasible. There is also a war going on between their other nieghbors, France and England, which should keep those two civs from having much impact if they were to sign an alliance against us. If we attack the Americans, I do not think we need alliances against them, though I would like to continue to use the war with the Persians to keep our other neighbors occupied while we conquer America.

Other options would be any of our neighbor civs to the south and west. The problems with conquest in this area are that we are on relatively good terms with most of these civs and that they have decent militaries. The Russians will have their UU very soon, the Chinese have their's now and so do the Indians. The Iroquois and Indians are not particularly aggressive, and so would make decent allies. There is no real point in attempting a conquest of China until we have taken out the Indians. The Russians and Babylonians are possible targets, as their lands are somewhat near our FP.

I agree, I think we should take out the Americans. They are close to our capital and we could use there lands as a base to attack some of our southern enemies such as England or France. Also, we should wipe out the Aztecs as soon as possible. I want to wait to attack England or France until their war is over to ensure the easiest victory possible. India and China should not be attacked for the reason you stated above, but I feel we should attack them sometime around the time of our UU. I also support the continuation of the war with Persia as it will keep a majority of the civs occupied. Russia is a possible target, but that should wait until after America. I don't think we should attack Babylon because it is one of the most powerful nations of the world (besides us of course). Here is the order in which I think we should attack rival nations that you mentioned above:

After that, we should (hopefully) have won. If not, we should probably attack Egypt and Zululand as well as any other nation that stands in our way.

Also, I do agree we should have our eyes on American territories. This would a good chance to capture the annoying city of Denver.

No doubt, America should become our next target. I would still like to maintain some offensive troops in the west so that we have immediate retaliation capabilities in that region, should the need arise. But we should start sending troops just outside of Miami soon.

Donavon's desire to keep troops on in the western front is a good one. As the Persian situation proved, we should be prepared to fight a two front war.

I think that conquering America would result in a destabilization of our eastern borders. France and England will not likely enjoy us expanding that close to their borders.

On the other hand, Babylon poses a serious threat and we could quite possibly obtain a few helping hands in that fight that would likely result in a strengthening of friendships with our other western neighbors.

Either way, we should not be thinking of doing any attacking until we discover a more effective offensive unit capable of dealing with the superior defensive might of musketmen.

I believe that even though Babylon is our big threat, we should take out the Yanks. At least to their capital. The area would allow a lot of growth for us and increase our world rep easily. Then we can use this growth to support a prolonged attack on the Babs. We will need to address the Bab problem, but let's get some quick growth and easily obtainable resources first.

I think America is currently the target we should be looking at. They are constantly insulting our sovereignty by moving troops inside our borders, and lets not forget the Denver fiasco. America shouldn't be hard to conquer, and will provide us with some land to grow. After that we should turn our attention towards Babylon.... (Hammurabi: I do not have weapons of mass destruction! The Babylonian people are ready for martyrdom!".... sorry.....)

I think we should take on the Russians now. Once they get Cossacks we will have to wait for Panzers before attacking them. Our eastern border is somewhat compact right now and thus easier to defend while we continue fighting in the west. Where ever we choose to fight we will have two flanks to defend. Since the eastern flank is the easiet to defend we should look elsewhere for expansion. India has been good to us and I see no reason to attack them. China is too far. Babylon may be too strong for us. Russia may be ripe as they have been fighting Japan and may not be at top strength. We would also be catching them before their UU (which will have a movement of 3). Russia also possesses cities near our forbidden palace which would be productive once we liberate them. I would imagine we still have a viable fighting force in the west as well.

I agree with Donsig... Our eastern Border, as it currently exists, is relatively easy to defend. Combined with the fact that America, England and France can be played against each other to suit our needs, we should not mess with that side of the world at present.

Russia makes for an easier target than Babylon, but I think I'd rather use the Cossack against Babylon (with help from the Iros and Indians and Chinese, if necessary), than take them on and, if successful, expose an even larger border to the Babylonians in the process.
