I've watched Akira, Psycho, Eyes Wide Shut and Barry Lyndon. I thoroughly enjoyed all of them, though Psycho was the best of them IMO.

Men who hate women. Pretty good adaptation of the Millennium trilogy book 1.

You watched the original or the remake of Psycho? Eyes Wide Shut wasnīt Kubrickīs best, obviously. Barry Lyndon - highly entertaining and a good costume movie (couldnīt get through the book, Iīm afraid...)

I've watched the original Psycho by Hitchcock. From I've heard about the remake, I do good to skip it, am I not?

Honestly, I found Eyes Wide Shut to be really great: Not as good A Clockwork Orange or 2001: A Space Oddysey, but better than the Shining and on par with Full Metal Jacket.

Barry Lyndon was a very decent movie. But I think I need to give that one another full go before I can give my full opinion.

Just came back form Carnage.

I liked it, the comedy was dark, and it was very short (just over an hour in length).

Jodi Foster over did it a bit, but, then again, it fit her character.

I saw Thor last night. It wasn't a bad film, but it certainly wasn't much good either.

Rented Defendor. Interesting scenes between mentally ill hero (Woody Harrelson) and court psychologist (Sandra Oh).

Psyc: Why don't you just let the Police handle it.

Viewer watching and thinking critically: Because when the police get involved with organized crime, they can become corrupted.

* Ashik Kerib - If you can forgive the hysterical acting and unsophisticated production standards (including voice-dubs, despite this movie was made in the '80s), this film is actually quite a wonderful tribute to Medieval Azerbaijani history and culture by Armenian (!) filmmaker Sergei Paradjanov. 7/10
* Wild at Heart - Extremely bizzare, but I had a reasonable good time watching this one. Definitely not Lynch's best movie, but worth a try, though many will probably find this movie insanely stupid. 7/10

The Battle of Algiers
Solid film making, offers a seemingly very well portrayal of the happenings and their reasons ("seemingly" because I don't actually know much about it). This is in part accomplished by a perspective that does so well in being objective like maybe no other war movie. It does not seem to emphasize the view point of either side, but without hesitating to show the morally dubious parts of them (though I have heard of French forces literally slaughtering people, which the movie didn't pick up, but not sure how much there is to it for real). However, this perspective is also its weakness, because the movie feels a little like the mere chronicle of events, like a documentary made into a movie. But that is done well nevertheless.
7,67/10 with the outlook of an upgrade in the future

Another movie retelling history: The Baader Meinhof Complex
German movie trying to be Hollywood-like historical thriller. The stereotyped way the head investigators were portrayed (everyone filling a rather one-dimensional role for the purpose of creating time-worn dynamics and illustrating stuff) goes to show how such a Hollywood orientation can be annoying. But it was done decently well for German standards nevertheless.
What hurts the movie is the scope of historic events which is supposed to be shown while looking at it through the lens of individual destinies. The parts of this try are not bad, but together they make an unfinished impression. Despite its appreciated effort, the movie IMO fails to compellingly flesh out the historic chain of events or the individual destinies. It would have needed more/smarter prioritizing.
7,51/10 with the outlook of a downgrade in the future

Yeah, the Battle of Algiers was notorious for torture in a war where torture was commonplace. Jaques Massu of the 10th Paratroop Regiment had this to say about it:

Faced with a choice between two evils, either to cause temporary suffering to a bandit taken in the act who in any case may deserve to die, or to leave large numbers of innocent people to be massacred by this criminal’s gang, when it could be destroyed as a result of his information, there can be no hesitation in choosing the lesser of the two evils, in an effective but not sadistic interrogation.

Effective interrogation involved things like crushing people's hands with olive presses, using live wires on genitals, shooting people in knees and all other manner of fun things. Massu was also lying, torture was not the exception and did not arise out of 'exceptional' circumstances but was a done thing for French troops. Besides which, the French shot prisoners out of hand as a matter of course. Frankly, French conduct in Algeria makes Abu Ghraib look like freaking summer camp.

War of the Worlds (2005). Very impressive, although I thought Tom Cruise's character could have been played better by somebody else.

Frankly I donīt see much point in redoing Psycho with the exact same shots; might as well re-release the original instead...

Oh, I liked Eyes Wide Shut too, but it indeed was not a par w/2001.

Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy. Fantastic acting and very well made film. Very good. A great plot, but my only criticism would be that it was lacking in intensity in parts. Of course it's not meant to be the most gripping thriller ever, but there were sections that ambled along under the steam of the acting rather than the continuance of the plot. 8.5/10.

Just finished Rise of the Planet of the Apes.

Very well done movie. I love a smart, well developed blockbuster, wish there were more of them.

Also this is one of the few movies which has actually gotten me excited for the sequel.
