COTE Poll #4 - Team Choice
Very interesting to see some of the early responses on the other polls!
Some of the changes I have planned for next time make it desirable to balance the number of "people" on each team, instead of using the clan factors as in the current game. There are numerous ways to do this, but one very important underlying question - should players be allowed to choose their own teams, or should teams be assigned? Let Everyone choose their own team. A player who wants to play a domination style game is going to do so no matter what team they are assigned to, so we might as well let them play for the team that makes them happy! Balance less popular teams by giving players multiple signups if necessary. Have Yahzuk assign everyone's teams. Nobody gets to choose is just as fair as everyone gets to choose! It's time to force people outside their comfort zones and make them try a different style of play. How about a little of both? Not a joke actually, I know exactly how I would accomplish this, but I'm not telling you! |

I think a little of both - in an ideal world allowing everyone to choose their own clan would be great, but it does risk some clans overpowering the others through sheer weight of numbers.
I assume your ideas of 'a little of both' are along the lines of the suggestions I posted whilst Daimyo of Osaka : Quote:

I think everyone whould be allowed to choose their own team, but to prevent a single team gaining a game advantage from a numerical advantage each team gets a single vote in all decisions, but that vote is decided by a ballot of the team members eligible to participate in making that decision. Ties within teams go to whoever has the most influence and ties between teams have the yahzuk make the final decision. If it's on a national scale then city weighting will come in as well.
Example: Kyoto has just finished a building. All the clans are represented. The kagaku unanimously want a library, two of the three bunka (with a combined influence of 60% of the total bunka influence) want a monastery, the other one wants a monument and the gaiko unanimously want a market. The Shihai however are split, two want to build a swordsman (Their combined influence is 50% of the shihai total) the other wants a library to get to longswordsmen quicker. The shihai vote goes to the library as the highest influence individual went for library. Kyoto starts on a library. If however the shihai had voted for a swordsman then yahzuk would choose the production from the four options chosen by the clans. |
