What direction is easiest to travel in Europe?

What direction is easiest to travel in Europe? North, south, East or west? I am not think of roads or politics. I am think of trips of thousands of kilometers.

I am thinking of weather patterns, Coriolis effect and similar.

I would guess form southwest to north east following the gulfstream (if you are at the sea) or the Atlantic winds. (Same direction but will be difficult to proceed if you reach the Baltic sea)

Are you planning on turning into a swallow or some such migratory animal?

It really depends on where you start. And depending on your mode of transportation, the only thing that really matters is prevailing winds and ocean currents. If you're bicycling, the easiest direction is whichever directions the roads and borders go. Or possibly if you start at the top of a large hill.

I suppose he ought to turn into a European swallow, but turning into an African swallow could prove interesting.

But then of course African swallows are non-migratory.

Are you thinking on going by sea, by air or by land ? it makes a diference ...

If you go by sea or by air this is the oposite of the truth. Both the sea currents and the prevailing winds in the SW of Europe ( I know this by first hand ... just look at my location in the left ) push any boat/plane to S/SW. Just check this for a typical wind map in northern hemisphere summer and this for sea currents

To be honest, most likely the better direction to go in Europe is SW->NE if you start north of the Pyrenees and want to go by sea and E->W if you go by air ( this mostly because of the prevailing winds in winter , but obviously Colioris forces also have a say , as you can easily deduce from the wind and sea currents directions maps )
