Movies you love that everyone hates

As the title says what are some movies that you love that are hated by the general population of other people? For me it was Michale Bays Armegeddon for some reason I really liked that movie but it has gotten a lot of negitive reactions from people and everyone hated it. I also liked Hitchikers guide to the Galaxy as well which was also a favorite movie that I like that everyone hated.

I don't think everyone hated either of those movies, they are just average.

I don't think I like any movie that's universally panned, but one of my favorites is Seraphim Falls, which is considered boring and pretentious by most people who watch it. I personally thought it was exhilarating, and I loved the symbolism.

My answers are pretty much the same as the one star movies you like thread.

I think I chose Red Dawn as one of my movies.

I also liked Unbreakable. The movie didn't do so well, but I liked it. But I've always been a Bruce Willis fan.

I'm sure there are others that didn't do so well at the box office that I liked.

I love the Evil Dead series but I'm pretty sure if anyone saw them that didn't realize their cult status or a lot of the almost revolutionary filming techniques, it would just be seen as any standard campy horror movie.

I suppose I don't hate the new Star Wars films as much as the average fan. Especially The Phantom Menace, which besides the Jar Jar Binks and fart jokes was a good movie in my opinion. The same applies to Indiana Jones and the Crystal Skull, which was only ruined by a few very poor scenes (like Shia Lapuff swining in the trees with the monkeys). I don't even mind the "nuking the fridge" as much as most people as the pure ridiculousness of it was almost appealing.

There is probably a lot more movies that I dislike that are considered good than vice-versa. For example, I really thought Children of Men wasn't very good despite the praise it received. It had a lot of very good scenes (especially the parts with Michael Cain), but as a whole, the movie didn't seem to really lead anywhere or make a point.

Waterworld (1995). Besides the bad acting on Dennis Hopper side, I had thought that the movie was decent.

I enjoyed Waterworld very much.

My own selections for the thread are The Keep, and Highlander. But then, it's all just a matter of taste.

Highlander (the first one, obviously) is pretty beloved, from the support I've seen in the online & nerd community.

I love The Twilight Saga: New Moon, because it's so hilariously bad that it becomes good. Others love it, because they love the series. I love it, because I can get many laughs from it.

I thought Waterworld was really silly. While I think the premise of an apocalyptic world which was predominately water was quite creative and interesting, it certainly couldn't be caused on Earth by all the ice melting. And the creators also required you to suspend the laws of physics by having wind-powered craft that were almost as fast as gasoline powered vehicles which somehow still managed to get fuel.

I wanted to like it, but I couldn't get over the inconsistencies. I think the movie would have made far more sense to have taken place on a different world where everybody had the same technology.

Also HHGTTG wasn't that panned nor was Armageddon, although the former wasn't nearly as good as the books and the latter should have been. The notion of turning people into astronauts to accomplish some mission just isn't realistic in any sort of very short time frame. Space Cowboys suffered from the same problem.

Good examples of different tastes. I liked Waterword, though certainly it's science was problematic. Humans evolving gills in a couple generations would even give creationists pause. Though to be fair, the smokers were based in an oil tanker (the Exon Valdez!) and would have decades of fuel. The truly odd thing is that everybody could be sailing around for a century and not find the bloody island.

As for Armageddon, it was panned largely for the idea that we would nuke a killer asteroid - something considered un-PC by scientific talking heads. Again to be fair, the roughnecks were passengers - there were NASA pilots aboard flying the spaceships. Likewise in Space Cowboys, Clint and the others were retired astronauts who would have required only some remedial training.

Sometimes, like in 300, you just have to suspend your sense of reality and enjoy the art of it. It's fun to argue about it though...

I agree with Bombshoo regarding Indiana Jones 4, the first three had just as silly stuff going on as the new one and I was quie surprised how much I liked it when I finally saw it. Considering the critizism it got.

For my contribution I like both Lynch' Dune and the Hallmark miniseries a lot for different reasons. the movie I like for the atmosphere and how it cut down quite a story to 1.5 hours. The miniseries I like because it follows the books so closely. both get a lot of hate.

I also really like Alien 3, especially the extended version. And I actually like that Fincher killed off Reese, Newt and Bishop. Probably the part of the movie that gets the most complaining, to me it made the franchise a sci-fi horror movie again, which Aliens sort of undid to the first one(not that I dislike Aliens at all)

The actual plot was meh, but the scenery and costumes are amazing.

I've heard the love story was basically an excuse for James Cameron to make the world's best model ship so I think I appreciate what was the really important in that movie anyways.
