Welcome to the September Gauntlet for the Civ III HOF. Calis has suggested that we take a shot at beating one of his games so the September Gauntlet is:

Level: Demigod
Mapsize: Large
Victory Condition: Domination

Take note that there are only three games currently on this table.

You have two months to play if you wish to participate. Please submit your games by November 15th 2011. Good luck to all competitors.

I'm getting my ass kicked.

Who are you playing as and which opponents? I was wondering about the Egyptians.

I'm trying the Iroqouis against America, China, Egypt, Japan, Germany and Babylon. With that set of AI, I can trade Pottery and Alphabet, plus get a free tech out of Philosophy. I have no trouble getting a pump or two up and even raise a good army and with alliances ruin one weak AI. Then I kind of choke out in the early middle ages as the tech pace kind of takes off without me.

I don't really have specialist farms in my strategy though, so I'll tweak what I'm doing and see if I can hang in the tech pace.

Maybe keep them all fighting. Alliances with pseudo wars.

I'm still giving this one a go. I have Mapfinder running for settler pump factories plus a luxury. I'm finding that a single 4turn pump can grab enough land for horses and iron usually, even if I don't have The Wheel and Iron Working until after Literature and trading. Something I'm trying to do about the tech pace is get an SGL and whip out the Great Library. My first thought was Temple of Artemis, but I can take that over, and the money I save/make of the Great Library helps me afford some of the armies I'm whipping up...

Is anyone else trying this one?

I'm just hoping for a good win and table position, I doubt I'm a threat.

I may give this a shot, though I haven't been playing much Civ III lately.

80% water, arid, cold. Get a nice start, build 4-6 cities to get iron/horses, build a bunch of units and go kill. the despotic GA is a pain, but means you can take down several civs before the Middle ages, plus you can catch more guys building wonders.

I haven't started this yet. If it plays anything like my Deity Standard domination games did, a revolution doesn't really seem worth it. I recall extorting tech (not an Emsworth-type of agreement, more the conventional make tech for peace and then redeclare). A skilled use of gifting away cities, then retaking them before the turn ends, and then extorting cities for peace later on might help in this game.

I tried a few maps, but came back to the August one...I'll probably submit something on this one just to improve one of my dreadful QM wins.

I'm taking a real simple approach on this one...just set up a 4 turn settler pump using the Iroquois on a pang with maximum number of civilizations. I'm even going with goody huts to get the three techs needed for MW faster. All towns get two workers for commerce and mining, then make Barracks and nothing horse units. It's easy to get a good stack going and there's more than enough civs without iron based defensive units to die quickly. Hoping to hit domination based on Knights, and perhaps conquest of ToA.

After my "success" in October gauntlet will go for this one too.

Currently going with Celts against full lineup in around 650BC and just finished Babylonians and got ToA + Oracle from Babylon (!!).

I have only researced to Iron working. All other techs I have taken from Babylonians + trade since I have rolled with 0% research. Do you think this is the right strat?

Building wise I have built 2 pumps with granaries. After that only barracks + gallics (+few galley's to scout).

Sounds good!

I won't find the time to defend my No. 1 position in this, as I am still working on my huge deity milkrun.

Hopefully I will find the time for the October gauntlet.

I would like to have given this a go too, but I am working on a huge demi god milkrun

I'm still debating between the Iroquois, the Celts and even the Ottomans. May try each this weekend.

I found a map with a pump and the Celts, been playing it a few hours. The date I'm sure will be nothing to write home about, but I'll get an empty slot. I'm a little behind in tech, but I keep beating up on weaker civs enough that I get some cities here and there. Despite being a little laggy in science, I am by far the leader in military, area and population.

Have taken the Pyramids, but ToA is going to take some time.

I just finished a Large Demigod game. Oh wait... it was a spaceship game. Well I got to some 40% of the domination limit near the game's end. That should could for about 2/3 completion of this game, riiiight????
