Worst neighbor?
I can't make a poll on my iPhone app but if I could I would vote Alexander as worst neighbor. I think he is incapable of living peacefully with anyone. Your best hope is he has an AI neighbor to fight with as otherwise he will attack you...
Yes he is my only non-CS neighbor and though I settled in the opposite direction he sent his troops my way... I'm also far from sold on the beeline to Ironworks, I had all sorts of problems with money and happiness... Maybe if I had gold or silver but I don't, just stone and furs. We'll see if I can fend off Alexander with War Chariots and others... |

I tend to have bad luck with Suleiman, but I think Augustus Caesar is the one that gives me the most trouble. It doesn't help that he always looks so bored with the game when we're in negotiations that I want to kick him in the knee caps.

Alexander, Nobunaga, Bismarck, Montezuma, Napoleon, Elizabeth, Nebuchadnezzar, Washington, Suleiman, Augustus, Hiawatha (you motherlovin' dickstabber).
I'm pretty sure the other civs would count, but Genghis is like a bro depending on the game. |

If I'm next to Ramkhamhaeng I know I'm in for a tough game. He'll get some City States on his side, and he's got his Naresuan's Elephant; I know I'll need more pikes than usual.
Elizabeth is extremely difficult to get along with; upset about the slightly ripple in the water. Not a fierce enemy, but never one to do nice trades with. Once you're on the wrong foot with Bismarck he's capable of sending a neverending flow of Landsknechten in your direction. You've just killed a dozen, there comes the next. Germany is often in the lead with amount of troops. With Ramesses in the pack it'll be more difficult to get the wonders, otherwise a fine guy. Hmm... these are probably the ones I'm most weary of. I kinda like the aggressive ones, like France, Aztecs, Greece, although Alexander can be a pain in the neck with constantly changing moods.

"wrong foot with Bismarck"
I think that's an impossibility. Bismarck is always on the wrong foot with you whenever you become his neighbor. At least with Elizabeth, one can reasonably expect certain moments when she can be pretty respectful towards the player. I trust that about as much as I trade with Augustus, because I know that come Modern/Future Era, it's time for domination! |

Sure he could be a bro, but in my experience if he's too close he'll city spam your borders and force you to eat him to expand or get blocked off. Also, Ramkhamhaeng is pretty rough. He seems to have an insatiable need to be as sour as physically possible.

Napoleon. He is warlike and expansive, and very high deceptive number at 8 for god's sake.

I'd actually say Askia or Augustus. Bismarck and Montezuma are very dependably stupid, so they're not that bad. Pachacuti can be a pretty bad neighbor sometimes (on maps where he is strong).
Ghengis can be manipulated to be an awesome neighbor. Hiawatha is the bad element moving into the neighborhood in the mid-game. I don't mind having him as an early neighbor, especially if I'm going to warmonger. Catherine and Napolean can be counted on to backstab. |

Hiawatha is a dickstabber.
King, Earth, standard map/speed. I was Persian Europe, he was Iroquois Russia. Thanks to Monty down south in Africa, I never really expanded much beyond Eurasia (other than a late rush to claiming Australia). Eventually in the 21st Century, Hiawatha had already dominated Eurasia, forcing Wu Zetian into a squat city in Ceylon, conquering the hell out of the real Russia, Asian Ottomans and Roman Asia, but he and I were still like bros. I mean, you could actually look at the size and points to see how outmatched Persia was compared to Iroquois, and yet he never once touched me. At all. So Monty was being an all round dick as usual, and I figured hey its time to take down that dick once and for all. I remembered Hiawatha even gave me the go ahead. So Monty got crushed by my Industrial Atomic army, to his Renaissance/Industrial crap. Then Hiawatha built the UN, and because I was being THAT chummy to him, I figured I'll even put my vote for him. That's how much of a bro I was to him, and him to me. So the game was won by Iroquois in 2040, diplo victory. I was cool with that, and stayed on to see how things would have developed. But in 2050, "Your weakness presents to us a great opportunity. You have my apologies." Thanks an effing lot you dickstabber.

What you need to do is bumrush and successfully conquer his capital in the first 100 turns. I figure it would be extremely difficult to pull it off in Immortal, but below you shouldn't have problem with that. Just set everything to mass produce warriors/archers, and unlock that Honor track with the freebie general. e: best civ for this is Germany. |

I should agree, that Alexander is the worst. This guy is very aggressive and has great UUs early in game. I have surrendered in several games only because of phalanx on my borders.

Oda is always rude to me. He often dows nice and early and sends some friendly samurai along with his special ability that I hate.

Alexander definately.
At least you know Monty is lying when he goes all friendly, but Alexander somehow always manages to get you to believe him, by waiting until he's over half way through an RA or something, before he goes psycho and murders your innocent citizens by the crate load. (Yes, I keep them in crates, it defends against civil unrest.)

Bismarck. Recent game where his neighborly mood was "covet your lands", but after I wonder-spammed it was oh yeah good buddies. For a while.
In the meantime he was all spamming cities at my southern border, dissing everyone else who wasn't English. Nappy in Africa tried pulling an OCC, but experienced the inevitable blitzkrieg in the 1800s. Egypt would have been a threat, had it actually expanded outwards instead of remaining behind his Great Wall and letting zee Germans take two of three cities. Then there's Hiawatha in the far south, and Gandhi and Kamehana in the far east. The less said about Monty America, the better. So basically I conquered a neighboring city-state for living space, and was preparing to do the same to another CS that acted as a mutual buffer, then he basically said " screw dis, enough is enough, war" and pulled a Pearl Harbor on the forces I massed to take that city-state. So I purchased 4 atomics on the cheap (Big Ben + Commerce + Militarism is boss), and set fire to that city-state, his planned invasion force and a neighboring squat city of his. But he still wouldn't give up. Probably that ten turn limit thing going on in his codes. So now apparently I'm about to be locked in some WW1 stalemate, until I can get the proper econ going or spam more cities for juicy uranium in really oddball places. ![]() P.S. Alexander is like Nappy - like to lie a lot and doesn't afraid of anything. Last edited by smallfish; Oct 03, 2011 at 08:48 AM. |
