CONSCRIPTION!
Order Restored The US Congress has approved a draft law in order to match the Confederate effort. Already new recruits are filling the depots. New units are being formed every day throughout the north. Rich people are allowed to hire substitutes from amoung the destitute and freed slaves. Opposition has been muted, except in a few cities. President Techlincoln is considering asking Congress for the power to impose Martial Law. |

Best 3 out of 5?
Sorry for the delay again. The bloody internet was down most of Saturday and all day yesterday.
There is little to report aside from lots of marching and entrenching. I am enjoying my defensive campaign in the west and I'm confident of being able to expell you Rebels eventually, but it ocurrs to me that I must conquer the South to win the scenario and that is now most unlikely. It's been brilliantly played on your part, compounded by a stupid error on mine. The strategy of combining most of your army into one massive thrust at an unexpected spot was very hard to counter. And my ill-advised attack on the McCheese earlier allowed you to research 'conscription' right away, allowing the rapid expansion of your army, while I was still building state militia. Rather than play on, would you like to restart? I'd make a few fixes again, starting with the availability of conscription. Historically, both sides resorted to it after they ran short of volunteers. The south introduced it in April 1862 (turn16) and the north followed in March 1863 (turn 25). A time event preventing the CSA from researching it for a year, and the north a year after the south does would be simple and realistic I think. Comments/ideas for improvement? Thanks. |

In the interests of the playtest I would like to carry on, at least for a few more turns. I'm not so sure I will be able to pull off such a successful attack again so I would like to try and enjoy my success for just a little while longer, if thats Ok by you. We could always alter the objectives of the current game to make it a challenge. Although I have taken a lot of territory in the west I have only taken two major cities, Cincinnati and St. Louis, and the bulk of your industry is in the east. I still think we could have a good old scrap as it won't be easy for me to clear up in the west and try anything in the east. The Union with conscription can quickly outnumber the south! Its up to you, but I would quite like to carry on for a bit if its all the same!
EDIT: Don't worry about the delay. I was away for the weekend anyway visiting the in-laws. Saw a good Johnny Cash cover band which kept up my southern spirits! |

REBELS BURN CHICAGO!
They blame a Cow! Confederate forces have captured and burned Chicago. CSA officials have blamed Mrs. O'Leary's cow, but US officials reject the story, placing the blame squarely on Confederate soldiers. One CS Army private interviewed by this newspaper said, "Eee-haw! Ain't this a purdy town? We don't got nuthin' like it in the south. Cain't wait to burn it down!" The White House has sent a protest to the CS government, asking them to consider how they would feel if the Union did this to someplace like Atlanta. In other news, Ft. Wayne, which was allegedly "surrounded" by CSA forces, has cleared rebel forces blocking one of two rail lines to the east. 2 infantry, 1 artillery and 4 siege artillery rgts have been destroyed or captured with a loss of one US infantry rgt. |

A cow dun it! The destruction of part of the CS Army of Ohio near Fort Wayne is a bit of a blow to my ambitions, but there's still plenty of fighting to be done in the mid west!I don't have time to play tonight as I'm off out to watch the mighty Bluebirds (Cardiff City) destroy Blackburn Rovers in the League Cup quarter finals. Tomorrow I'm off on a business trip to Nottingham until Friday so I will play as soon as I get back. |

I hope that on your visit to Nottingham, you were not pulled over by the Sheriff and tossed into gaol!

Apologies for the delay. I have not had time to get to the PC for more than a quick browse since I got back. Hopefully I will find the time to play tonight as I'm off out to watch Electric Six tomorrow evening, joy

The loss of the Army of Ohio's Siege Train is a serious setback but it will only serve to delay the destruction of the Federal Armies in the west!
CS President Jefferson McMonk, feeling the moment is right, orders his Armies to take control of the Neutral states. In most cities Confederate troops are welcomed as heroes and only one unit is lost as the majority of the Neural cities are occupied. The cities taken are: Hannibal, St. Joseph, Rolla, Bowling Green, Louisville, Frankfort, Lexington Kentucky, Covington, Charleston West Virginia, Parkersburg and Morganstown. The latter two are taken by General Jackson's newly formed Army of Pennsylvania. Elsewhere the mopping up operation in the west continues with the capture of Milwaukee, Peoria, Green Bay and Quincy. Sorry again for the delay! |
