G-Minor XIX

ImageWhile the general Hall of Fame is an ongoing competition, we like to run time-definite competitions between updates that we call Gauntlets. Standard Hall of Fame rules (*) still apply, but any games meeting the settings will be counted towards the Gauntlet.

(*) Please read the >> HOF rules << BEFORE playing!

Settings:
  • Victory Condition: Diplomacy (though all victory conditions must be enabled)
  • Difficulty: Chieftain
  • Map Size: Small
  • Map Type: Continents
  • Speed: Standard
  • Leader: India (Gandhi)
  • Opponents: Any
  • Version: SV7 (1.0.1.332) or SV8 (1.0.1.511)
  • Date: 15th December 2011 to 1st January 2012
The highest score wins.

I was thinking of doing each of the Victory Condition with highest score. I guess not one after the other would be preferable, huh?

a space of a few years between would be fine...

the VC other than time ends up not mattering for achieving highest score, the goal becomes to just fill up the map with cities and grow them. any victory condition can incidentally be achieved while doing this.

That and please do not have both gauntlets be based on score.

When both are score there is nothing left to play but an incredible boring city managing task.

In fact, why not put a hold on all score gauntlets until there is a script automating city management permitted for the HoF?

Until now there has almost only been gauntlets with earliest date. I think it is good with some score games, that's a part of Civ too, and not everyone finds it boring. Two at the same time is perhaps too much though. It's easy to forget, but there are a lot of tactics in score games (as in date games), how fast you settle, which buildings to build first, how to use the money and so on. I see that some people don't like score games because of all the micromanagement, but I like them and hope for more of them in the future.

there's really only one path that's going to win regardless of vc, and it all boils down to ICS at these lower difficulties which just becomes extremely tedious. i think i spent 2 hours for around 20 turns on gmajor last night (large map), so it's at minimum going to be a 20 hour game, and all the turns are about exactly the same.

i may have just convinced myself to not continue my game =/

Is the score "time-adjusted" like in civ IV or is the only viable option to try to win close to the last turn???

Which is the last turn btw??

Yes, score depends on time. There is somewhere an excel file where you can check it.
So it is not always best to wait until the last turn. The last turn is 499.

he means 499 is the last turn you can get a non time victory, on turn 500 you get the time victory.

Indeed but I think he asked for the non time victory last turn.
