Well plenty of reading for me at work tomorrow and a few teams to follow to see how they do. Not unexpected to see the AP victory early. Just have to read how they did it.

Yeah, thanks everyone. I am extremely happy that the seemingly benign victory condition of
Culture might actually prove competitive here ![]() Huge thumbs up to Neilmeister for a superbly designed map (In my opinion, which is obviously positively biased since we managed to achieve a victory at all... some teams might be less enthusiastic)

Thanks for finishing us off McA!
Well done everyone, I am quite pleased with our finish. I am also very interested to read about AP victories under these conditions, as I know very little about them in general.

Well a quick glance at a few threads shows the benefit early of gifting cities to get the open borders etc. Something to remember in future though I did mention it early on..
![]() Still found out one way to get an AP win is to capture the AP itself. Nice move by PD there. |

Unless I am mistaken, we have come in 5th.
1st, 2nd, 3rd all Religious Victories. 4th Domination. Our Cultural VC has proved reasonably competitive

![]() Seriously there was a few things we could have done a bit better diplo wise. Although I don't play much single player now I was well aware of the city gifting trick to get Toku(s) to open borders which could have spared us the war with Hattie and got OB before the AP forced them open. Delaying currency wasn't so good either. Lots of positives though and do think we did the best we could diplo wise.. ![]() Assuming there will be another SGOTM I'm still up for playing. @C63 Got any hints for fast space victories? |

No shame in that wooden spoon. Sometimes playing the game well means you end up with the spoon due to a low score. It's possible to get the gold and still win the wooden spoon.

Low score in a culture game is nothing to be ashamed of IMO! I am quite pleased with our finish based on our chosen VC.
The only "mistake" we made was not considering Religious victory as an option in greater detail.

Guess that came out wrong hence the winky smilie saying I was only joking. Think I had written in a previous post about getting more wooden spoons and how we'd missed it this time. Obviously a bit wrong there.

Yes, the dubious honour of the wooden spoon, of the six I own this is probably the finest

Congratulations on another wooden spoon!
The highest Civ IV score is highly over rated and very few players at Civfanatics consider it an honorable goal in itself. Thus, I would say that the lowest score is very honorable and thus places the wooden spoon just under the three laurels in desirability. My former team mates, you will soon get a laurel to go with your fine set of wooden spoons. Just set your minds on that goal next time with more conviction than ever before. I remember the good old days of playing with you (ChokoMisfits) and the great camaraderie we had back then; no doubt you still have it. With the best of intentions, Sun Tzu Wu |
