The Medieval Era - Creation Thread
I´ve planned long time ago to make a typical civ2 game settled during the medieval era beginning in 600 or 700 A.D. until the beginning of the 15th century.
The game Medieval II and also some civ4 scenarios gave me some inspiration how to realize this for civ2. Important for me is to use everything which is possible in a civ2 game. This means all techs will be available, all wonders and improvements and also all governments. They only have to fit into the medieval era. First of all I thought about which civs can be represent this time period most. Unfortunatelly civ2 only supports seven playable civs so I´m using the following civs: Holy Roman Empire Kingdom of France Kingdom of England Kingdom of Castille and Leon Venetian Republic Byzantine Empire Ayyubid Empire Barbarians (will represent all independent cities which can be conquered) All governemts will be available. I´ve renamed them with the following names: Despotic Monarchy (Despotism) Feudal Monarchy (Monarchy) Theocracy (Fundamentalism) Administrative Monarchy (Communism) Constitutional Monarchy (Republic) Merchants Republic (Democracy) Wonders will represent important people during this time period. From monarchs, scientists, religious people to painters and musicians will be available. These peoples are the royal household which will give you benefits (depending of the wonders they are representing). This scenario is completly in planning and I started working on it. I will post more when the scenario will be get into the next stage of creation. |

Who would you drop? I think the Civs selected are a pretty good choice. Its just a shame that Civ2 won't allow more than 7 civs. The barbarian Civ can be used to good effect with a little designer support though.

Compared with Civilization IV (Beyond the Sword), which I´m currently playing a little bit, civ2 is unfortunately very limited.
I would like to add much more civs, especially more muslim civs like the moors. Due to the limitations I have to concentrate on the main civs during this era.

There was talk a while back about someone breaking the civ limit, but I think it caused a ton of bugs...
I also wish the CIV2 designers had given more scope in this area... ![]() In any case, look forwards to seeing a new Medieval scen...A good era to mod in! |

Unfortunately civ2 is in many areas limited.
All is limited to an accurate amount of units, techs and improvements. But civ2 has also one major positiv thing: Modding is very easy. ![]() Here´s a list of famous peoples (wonders) I´m trying to use: Francis of Assisi (Pyramids) Antipope Sylvester IV (Hanging Gardens) Jacob Fugger (Colossus) Ali ibn Ahmad al-Nasawi (Oracle) Henry V (Great Wall) Niccoló Machiavelli (Sun Tzu´s War Academy) Genghis Khan (King Richard´s Crusade) Martin Luther (Michelangelo´s Chapel) Hildegard von Bingen (Copernicus Observatory) Vasco da Gama (Magellan´s Expedition) Guillaume de Machaut (Shakespeare´s Theater) Leonardo da Vinci (Leonardo´s Workshop) Albert of Jerusalem (J. S. Bach´s Cathedral) Ibn Taymiyyah (Isaac Newton´s College) Cosimo de´ Medici (Adam Smith´s Trading Co.) Roger Bacon (Darwin´s Voyage) Albertus Magnus (Statue of Liberty) William Shakespeare (Eiffel Tower) Vlad III Dracula (Women´s Suffrage) Nicolaus Copernicus (Hoover Dam) Maximilian I (United Nations) Christopher Columbus (Apollo Program) Albrecht Dürer (SETI Program) Johannes Gutenberg (Cure of Cancer) I´ve choosen famous people from the timeperiod between the 10th and the 16th century. I´m trying to get them available in the correct timeline, like Luther in the 15th/16th century and not at the start of the 11th century. I only disabled three wonders (Great Library, Marco Polos Embassy and Manhattan Program). I think nuclear bombs in the medieval time would be looking something silly. ![]() Next part are the improvements and the techtree. |
