New City-State Types

What will the new CS state types (religious and mercantile) do?
Also, which City-States would you like to see in each category?
I think this makes sense:

Mercantile:
-Zurich
-Antwerp (confirmed)
-Bactria
-Hong Kong
-Macau
-Dubai

Religious:
-Vatican City
-Jerusalem
-Qufu
-Lhasa (already in as a cultural CS)
-Santiago de Compostela(Christianity)
-Dwarka(Hinduism)
-Kushinigar(Buddhism)
-Ise(Shintoism)
-Qufu(Confucianism)
-Tai'an(Taoism)
-Jerusalem(Judaism)
-Takht-e-Soleyman(Zoroastrianism)
-Kairouan(Islam)
-Amritsar(Sikhism)

Post your suggestions here.

Mercantile will grant you a luxury, acoording to a preview on Gamespot

And I'd guess the religious CS will give you Faith, just like Cultural CS gives you culture.

I wonder if militaristic city states will be changed?

I would say Lisbon will be Merchantile, as well as perhaps Hong Kong or Dubai

Lisbon will almost certainly be mercantile. They might change a few old ones around as well.

Any number of new CS listed or just "new CS"?

Well all they did was give units as like all other CS they were loyal to who gave the most gold. Also the attitudes Aggressive etc never played a part. Why can't CS be trouble makers in regions rather than just sitting there?

Guess you are right there.
They should cause a little more mayhem than they currently do.

Well, they don't generally cause mayhem directly, but they do by begging all of the main civs to attack other city-states.

The elections/revised emphasis away from gold dumps aside, City-States quests should be revised as follows

1) Rivals and Grudges
- Make it rational. Neighbouring CS can become rivals, but once the same civ allies both, there should be a decay mechanism where after X*random# of turns, the enmity is dissipated and they select a new CS that is aligned with their allied master's foreign policy.

2) The build x wonder/road to capital questline should be a secondary objective that can be achieved independent of #1

3) I'd add a 3rd quest-line that is gold>request unit (UU)> other specific mid/late game units.
And from a gameplay perspective, these gifted units will cost the CS nothing to maintain.

Why is this important? This 3rd questine should be the Easiest for most players to fullfill, and it will allow CS to field a strong army.

but that is the most retarded mechanism that almost every player ignores, especially because it will quickly lead to you being at permanent war with every other CS

With diplomacy and religion in place it'll be a bit more varied than just gold, of course, which will be fun.

True that, it is a bit silly.

But in the end it are just city states, we don't want them to be too assertive of course.

I didn't say that I agreed with that quest (especially because half the time they want you to take out a city-state that you have no contact with or no way to reach).

Personally, I would like to see them inplement the CS Diplomacy Mod into the core game.

Vatican City is a city in a country in a city in a country.
How is it possible to have it in game while Rome is in game?
Same as Constantinople=Istanbul?

Religious City States
-Santiago de Compostela(Christianity)
-Dwarka(Hinduism)
-Kushinigar(Buddhism)
-Ise(Shintoism)
-Qufu(Confucianism)
-Tai'an(Taoism)
-Jerusalem(Judaism)
-Takht-e-Soleyman(Zoroastrianism)
-Kairouan(Islam)
-Amritsar(Sikhism)

That didn't stop them from having both in CIV (one for the Byzantines, one for the Ottomans). It was weird, yes, but that's what happens when you have two Civs representing the same geographic area over different time periods...

The expansion announcement hinted that mercantile city states will provide a boost with gold:

In addition, Mercantile city-states will be attractive for those of you who love to grow your civilization's treasury.
Maybe you can trade this luxury away?

Another religious city state could perhaps be Gamla Uppsala, which was home to the Temple of Uppsala, a Norse religious centre.

Personally, I was hoping they'd go the way of Gazebo's "City State Diplomacy" Mod-where the price required to buy influence with City States was *exhorbitant*, but where you could build Messengers & Envoys & the like-who could then be sacrificed to improve relations with the City State. It also meant you were more likely to befriend CS's in your local neighbourhood first, rather than a CS on the other side of the world ;-).

Also, how will giving you a luxury make Mercantile CS's any different to regular city states?

Aussie.

Maybe they have two, the generic luxury that you may or may not have and a special luxury you can't get from anyone else (one that, presumably, you can't take by conquering either). Essentially, they'd give you happiness rather than a luxury.
