New Galleass and New Attack Animation!
Hello, all. I thought I'd give an update on what I'm working on. The Ship of the Line is currently in beta right now because of some problems I'm trying to work out.
While that's going on, I thought I'd go ahead on something some of you have requested and also something I've really wanted to do since Smoking Mirror announced his War Galley. For my Galleass, several of you wanted a catapult attack. Well, here you go! And finally, the way I really wanted my Galleass to look. This would make an excellent upgrade for the Galleass in the Mid-Late Middle Ages. Check it out! I hope you're as excited about these as I am. Hopefully it won't take me long to finish the catapult attack on the Galleass. It'll take me a while to finish the Late Galleass. So, what do you think? ![]() Cheers, Colonel |

The Galleass with the cannon looks very cool, though were they still using oar powered boats at that time?

In Europa Universalis, the Galley/Galleass is an important part of your fleet well into the 1700's! . . . which is historically accurate, more or less (at least in the Med). They do not do well on the high seas (ocean): only coastal and seas. Last edited by Colonel Kraken; Feb 28, 2003 at 04:44 PM. |

Thanks, Yoda.
Ok, Zulu, where are you? You were one of the big advocates of the catapult attack.

It seems more likely that the catapult attack would be side-on, not end-on, but what you've done will do me just fine

I think the catapult should fire forwards, As the ships main tactic would be a ram attack the catapult would be used as the ship closed with the enemy.
During the early age of colonisation troops transports were often equiped with oars in order to utilize the extra man power. You might think that profesional soldiers would be above such a menial task as rowing, but during this time many of the colonial armies were little more than pirates or hired mercenaries. It was only the profits from empire building that allowed the european armies to evolve their profesionalized modern armies. |

I really like both these units.
The Late Galeass gives the right "Lepanto-feeling". Looking forward to see them completed. |

great work!!
I really like the catapult attack. It makes it usefull without gunpowder. thanks a lot. I agree with SM on the direction of the fire keep it forward. btw Smoking Mirror any chance of seeing a catapult or scorpion attack on your war galley? I would like to give it a (small) bombard attack and then use the ramming as attack B. |

Thanks, SM, for the information, and thank all of you for your kind words. I'll be working on the catapult attack for my first Galleass after I've finished my Ship of the Line. Then, I'll complete the new Galleass.
Thanks, Colonel |
