Gallery of Wonders and Wonders being Constructed?
Is there any sort of gallery which features images of wonders (in the city) and wonders being constructed? If not, I think it would be a useful resource to have on this website.
I'm not very good with screenshots, otherwise I'd do it myself! One thing I like about Civ V is that you can see on the normal map what wonders foreign cities are in the middle of building. Once you have discovered the city, you can see this even if you don't have an active unit in the area (though make sure you clear up all the black spots since a wonder might be in a portion of the city that you can't see). Often, I like to scout out the other players' territory early so I can keep track of what they are building (especially useful to know if you need to rush with a GE or forest chopping). I read that in G&K, embassies will let you know what wonders are being worked on, so I don't know if they will change being able to see it on the map as well. It's also nice to see what the wonders look like when completed. At least, you can figure out which city the wonder was built in. In Civ IV, getting intel was hard (you could use spies to view a particular city's production). I did really like the wonder movies in Civ IV - they are far better than the screenshots in Civ V. I also liked how the city views in Civ IV included buildings - back then, I could identify every single building and wonder in an enemy city just by zooming in and looking at the pictures. (Though I found there was typically only enough room to show about 20 or so buildings). Speaking of Civ IV, the one wonder I was *never* able to get to show up as an image was Hollywood - anyone else have that problem? On a different note, I also really liked the city viewscreen they had in Civ III. In Civ V, I normally play with Ancient starts and I do lots of Wonder building and I've found that the screen maxes out at about 12 or so wonders being visually displayed, so by the time I get to the later (Renaissance and later) wonders, I often don't get to see images of them (under construction or finished). --------------------------------------------------------------------------- COMPLETED WONDERS A. Very distinctive (in unusual places): Colossus (water) Great Lighthouse (water) The Great Wall (surrounding cultural borders) Machu Picchu (on top of mountain) Sydney Opera House (water) B. Distinctive in appearance (your experience may vary): Mausoleum of Halicarnassus Stonehenge The Great Library The Pyramids The Hanging Gardens The Oracle Chichen Itza Hagia Sophia Himeji Castle The Porcelein Tower Taj Mahal The Forbidden Palace Statue of Liberty Cristo Redeemer (small) Eiffel Tower (small) C. Average: Statue of Zeus Angkor Wat Notre Dame (distinctive, but small) Sistine Chapel (distinctive, but small) D. Hard to identify: Temple of Artemis Big Ben Brandenburg Gate The Kremlin (small, and hard because it focuses more on the palace than St Basil's) The Louvre The Pentagon (there are other buildings that look similar) United Nations (small, but look for the flags) Some notes I've found on Wonders under Construction: - The Great Wall is a wonder that you can *not* see other players building. (When you build it, you gradually see the Wall along your borders, but you don't see it for other players until it is completed). - Stonehenge can be hard to see sometimes. - Mausoleum, Statue of Zeus, and Temple of Artemis can be confusing together. - I often get Himeji Castle and Angkor Wat confused (usually the AI tends to prefer Himeji though). Sometimes I'm worried it's Hagia Sophia, but AI rarely builds it. |

Himeji and Angkor Wat are pretty easy to identify imho. Himeji is build on lets call it a easily distinctive socket.
Don't let yourself foool by the wonders that are usually build in the water - always also search the land around coastal cities. These wonders might very well not be in the water at all!

To answer the basic question: No, there isn't.
If someone seriously wants to attempt it, then I'd ask the admin to create a new gallery in the civ5 screenshots section. |

Re: Gallery of Wonders and Wonders being Constructed?
I figured out how to do screenshots and took snapshots of all the Wonders (completed and under construction).
If allowed to, I'd be happy to add them to some sort of gallery on the website. Notes: - Big Ben is hard to see. The completed wonder can be recognized by the clock, but that isn't evident while it is being constructed. - Cristo Redeemer while being constructed is very hard to identify. All you see is some scaffolding so it is very easy to miss. - Notre Dame is hard to see mainly because of the angle it's at, which makes it pretty small. - As previously mentioned, Stonehenge while being constructed can be hard to see sometimes. - The Eiffel Tower under construction is extremely hard to see (like with Cristo Redeemer). You can just barely see the foundations but that's it. - As previously mentioned, you can *not* see the Great Wall while it is being constructed by other players. - The Kremlin may be hard to identify because it doesn't look like how many people expect it to. If you played Civ IV, the palace portion of the Kremlin has the same color scheme as the Hertimage in Civ IV. - The Louvre is a bit nondescript. (Reminds me a bit of Oxford University in Civ IV). - The Sistine Chapel is small because of the angle (like with Notre Dame). - Regarding projects: an image of the Apollo Program shows up in your capital (even if you completed the project elsewhere). Different parts of the picture change as you complete the different space ship parts. Of course, you can just look at the Victory Progress screen to see what is finished, but you can also tell based on the map image. - As far as I can tell, there are no particular images for successful completion of the Manhattan or Utopia projects. |

Attached to this message are images of Cristo Redeemer, The Eiffel Tower, and Big Ben (both completed and under construction). I think these are some of the harder wonders to identify while constructing because the clues are pretty hard to see. |
