Suggestions and Critiques on How to Get Better in My Let's Plays?
So I have been running a YouTube channel for a few weeks now (don't worry I am not asking for subs or likes or any of that stuff) and decided to come back to Civ after not playing since release and it seems some people are really taking to the videos which really surprised me.
I love the game and love my small little community, but would love to continue to get better and be able to teach and entertain my YouTube family. One of them actually recommended posting on Civfanatics so I thought I would give it a shot and see what you sages and gurus of the world have to say. Thank you very much for your time and any and all replies. My YouTube is at http://www.youtube.com/user/HJTenchi?feature=guide and I am not asking for likes, subs or even views. If you would like to watch I would love to try and entertain you. If you have great experience with game, I would love to learn from you. (Currently playing around Emperor and Immortal)Have a great day and much love, HJTenchi |

I never watch you're lets plays I am going to watch now one of you're lets play and give some critisme
I don't like the quick game speed I usaly play standard and I thinx its better if you do some of you're lets play on the standard game because most people play it. Only critisme so far Is that you have to micromange a little bit better I just watch the first video of you're inca lets play Last edited by apocalypse105; May 17, 2012 at 03:29 PM. |

Thanks!!
Love the advice. I definitely think you have a point and I will try a standard speed next map. Now that I have been playing more I don't think it will be bad at all. Plus, most people probably do play on it.
I also agree with you on the micro-managing. It's one of my biggest weaknesses and I need to start teaching myself to do better about that including city specializations and focuses. Thanks for the reply and criticism!!

Difficulty Reply
I am currently playing variations on Emperor. Since I took a break and only have been playing for the last few weeks I started with Prince then moved to King and now on Emperor. I want to make the jump to Immortal soon, but will probably try some interesting variations with maps, teams and Civs first. : )

Thanks again!! I checked out your page, but kept getting errors on the vids when I tried to play them. I am assuming just a stupid YouTube bug or maybe a regional issue. (I am here in California in the United Sates.) Last edited by HJTenchi; May 18, 2012 at 07:01 AM. Reason: Adding some new info :D |

Good graphic? A guy who knows what he's doing?
You should watch MadDjinn http://www.youtube.com/user/SBFMadDjinn?feature=watch and quill http://www.youtube.com/user/quill18. They are pretty popular and you seem to be on the right track with the game-play and commentaries like them too. |

I haven't quite finished watching your England series yet, but I wanted to make a few general comments. All in all I have found the videos very enjoyable - you have a good delivery that people will find entertaining to watch I'm sure. But here are a few suggestions for upping your game if you ever intend to play at higher difficulties (Immortal or Deity):
1. Focus. Choose a particular Victory Condition (VC) early in the game, after evaluating your situation based on map exploration and your civs strengths/weaknesses, then coordinate all aspects of your game (general strategy, city planning, social policy choices, etc.) to achieve that goal. With regard to general strategy, it is usually wise to pick either a small/tall strategy (with focus on a specialist economy) or a large/wide strategy, as you will take different SP's to support one or the other. 2. Don't rely on computer defaults. The computer is rarely right concerning recommendations for city placement, tile upgrades and tiles/specialist slots to work with your citizens. This is mainly because the computer doesn't known what your plans are for the future. For example, it doesn't know when you are planning to start a large warmongering spree and need to conserve happiness, so it suggests farming and growing instead as long as you are happy. One thing I did notice is that you don't automate scouts and workers, which is a good thing. 3. Micromanagement. It's a good idea to do some of this, particularly with citizens, depending on your short-term goals for the city (growth vs. production, etc.). Extremely rigorous micro isn't normally needed. But there are a few things to always watch out for, such as being sure that a city doesn't starve under enemy invasion if you have tiles manually locked down, or being aware in general that the city is working the correct tiles/specialists for your strategy. The computer defaults to food/growth when happy and production when unhappy, so if your strategy calls for something different you will need to micro. Also, it defaults to gold production when puppeted so you will need to switch after annexing. Hopefully these suggestions are helpful. Keep having fun! |

I think you are a good entertainer and fun to listen to
This is important as these games can get very predictable and long sometimes. Regarding the games, you could try showing us an alternative to standard let's play genre. I am trying to break the status-quo by introducing special rules for the human player into the game. You can check my let's plays at Buzzdowan's Youtube channel. Here is an idea: I have another completely new game in mind (new rules). We could initiate the game, exchange initial saves, and play to separate LPs from the same source, following the same rules, and showing it each on its own channel. For me it would be interesting to see and compare how the game develops when played by different players.... Have fun and keep up the good work!

Fantastic commentary. I really love it.
Straight to the point, entertaining, no Bull... In my opinion you are out there with MadDjinn, great! Gameplay, like mentioned before, more "focus" would greatly enhance your game. Watched the Inca LP and have to say: "Mate, sometimes you sit in front of these wonders buildlist like a boy in a candyshop ![]() No, you cannot build them all, you do not need them all, even if they look all so nice ![]() Having said that, let me mention again how much I love your work, your LPs are really great to watch. Thanks for that! |

In you're lets play of persia the first video's you should have picked tradition first (the opener)
GO for legalisme first don't built momument in capital and get granary first So you have high food tiles the weet and deer.. after legalisme go monarchy So you can get more happiness and then settle you're next citie ![]() YOu can see you're next citie isn't growing fast so a granary would be great you get a free momument so YOu could olso pick the wales and cotton faster Last edited by apocalypse105; May 23, 2012 at 03:38 PM. |
