Very annoyed!
I have a culture question (playing Warlords at Immortal level,if that matters): Does the AI get some kind of automatic extra culture bonus with each city? In my current game I had the rare opportunity to build Pyramids in Memphis while building Great Lighthouse in Thebes. Fabulous start. So the Korean dude (Wang Kong) comes in and builds a city 3 tiles away from Memphis. The Stone is right next to Memphis and yet he (miraculously) gets a border pop. shortly after I start building mids, so I lost access to the Stone. I thought, "Well, maybe he had time to build a Monument or something for culture." Nope. I went back into WorldBuilder to check it. He was only building a Barracks. I thought Barracks was zero culture, even for the AI. No? What's happening here?

Well, Caste is Wang's favorite civic. If he has CoL, he will always switch to Caste - and AIs will pop borders with artists if in Caste.
Why in the world do you play Warlords?

I screwed up. I didn't go back far enough to check. He did have a Monument. I should have built an Oblisk before starting Pyramids. Stupid!
I have been playing Warlords for years. My son gave it to me as a Christmas present, and I've had so much fun with it that I see no need for Civ5, BTS, etc. |

BTS is a big improvement. Plus, you get to use BUG/BULL to improve the interface. I enjoyed some of the Warlords scenarios way back when, but for playing the standard game, BTS is the way to go. CIV 5 on the other hand is a different story

Well, Christmas is coming. Who knows? Most of the people I chat with on this forum, tell me that Warlords is more difficult than BTS. What do you think?

Deity Warlords definitely is. Below that I don't think there is much of a difference. Besides just the enhancements/new stuff of BTS, the main thing I notice is war weariness is much worse in Van/War.
There's also some new stuff in BTS that would affect your beloved culture game. Definitely worth it. Did not realize that you actually did not have BTS, but rather just chose not to run it.

As an aside, sometimes I'm annoyed that you aren't able to place cities closer, like with just one tile in between. That would result in a lot more culture flips, hard to say if the human or AI would profit more! |

BtS offers a lot of free cards for early game in the sense. Biggest being you can always pull of the Aesth card and the happy cap ceiling is better too. @Ramess you really should buy it... it should be pretty cheap now... |

You can get BTS for like $5, on Steam at least, don't know about at a regular store. No reason not to give it a shot.

You mean WC. Not axes.
![]() As for level of difficulty, BTS is a sweetheart towards human compaired to both Vanilla and Warlords. Warlords is really a harsher yet better version of Vanilla. I, to this date, can not get a grip on my games progress when playing warlords in epic speed with its odd ball number of turns. Always wondering, am i pushing enough or have I pushed too far since the science is low due to lower pop cities. AI on the other hand have pop 20 cities in the BC (exaggeration alert) and likely generating trade route gold at 10-15 gpt. BTS is the kinder and gentler version.

I also wanted to add that the Vassal system is extreamly sweet in BTS since the captured cites will have the full use of 210tiles as the culture expand to your Vassals boundary.
In Warlords that is not the case. You can actually start loosing tiles to the Vassal.

I had no access to metal, and his city placement also eliminated the possibility of Horses. It was a key location at the start of the game. Anyway, I replayed the game and used my worker to prebuild a road over to the spot. My Settler got there in 1 turn ahead of him. Now he is begging to trade clams for horses. Sweet revenge!
