I was playing America in this Monarch game, when the Persians beat me to the Great Lighthouse. . .but if you notice, the 'coastal city' was on a lake that made ocean by just one water square. . . doesn't seem right to me. Not that I'm worried, I'd rather have MV, but still. . . .

Well, it is salt water due to the ocean tiles and that's all that matters for building the Lighthouse.

Dont worry, they will spend all their money on a huge navy for their lake now.

This is annoying if there are too many (capable of bombardment) ships in a lake...
(Wonder what happens when you later ask them to go out - they'll be warped to another ocean...?) |

At least you are lucky to be able to cover all *ocean* squares with your culture by capturing and time. So if my guess was right, you would get rid of them sooner or later w/o building your own 22-tiles-navy. (Or those fools place their ships in cities and here you go...)
Well, I was inspired to post (above) by a recent game with a larger lake that provided always neutral squares. Aztecs had about 15 ironclads there and -including me- four other civs had access to the lake. Fortunately, I was able to plop a (total-overlap) isthmus city on Aztec territory when it came to war, so I could get in my *real* navy. I was so annoyed about the bombardments that I would have built a navy in lake-site cities w/o that channel. Anyway, your picture could be a nice SOTD. Persia can even place the navy on those two sea squares due to Lighthouse (tactical advantages here...!). |
