Scenario: End of Empires - When the Sun Stood Still (Development thread)

It's a work in progress. Those of you that already know I've done some work can check out the below link for now.

hxxps://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AqBkOMAn03aTdHBKSjFyZFM0RXlNNWNkbncwbVo4W nc

Please rename the hxxp to a http before loading the page. I'm doing this because sharing email on a homepage has lead me to much horror in the past.

I'll make specific civics, use Pie's Ancient Europe Mod for a baseline for combat mechanics, custom units down to the basic designs, and design a whole map for the thing, make an awesome main menu theme, then release it as an imbalanced hellhole for us to enjoy.

The OP will be runningly updated with, for example, the other work I've already done.

But please comment on the civics for now. You may even correct my knowledge. Just keep your changes comprehensible and related to implementation of game mechanics. THe whole deal is supposed to be a fun scenario for a game after all.

Also, srsly, I need army descriptions of the time period.

Current nation list:

MAJOR PLAYERS

Hu'ut Empire
Farou
Krato
Union of Aya'se
Empire of the Trilui
High Princedom of the Satar

MINOR PLAYERS

Acca
Ritti barb
Bahra
Bisria
Neruss
Palmyra
Piatrata
Jipha
Burshan
Zyesh
Rann barb
Hanakahi
Treha
Nahari Empire

Between the minor list, there is some fuzz about the south-Krato sphere of influence where I had to fuse two nations due to player count (We're still 2 too many). And I fused the wrong one as the nation name, seemingly, as when I looked through the updates, the other expanded and became an actual local power. >_> If someone can help me correct this, please tell me.

The scenario is based upon the fall of Hu'ut and through that the old cradle's great powers. If events follow what happened in the real NES, the early game would majorly focus around Hu'uts invasion of Neruss and the political collapse of Seshweay, the mid game would be the Farou-Kraton invasion of Hu'ut and Seshweay's desperate fighting against the Satar, and the late game would be dominated by Satar's powerful unique units and have Farou slowly rebuild the conquered area and free the Hu'uti slaves.

Despite last looking at Civ4's mods a couple years ago, I know there's many workarounds for the player limit Lj.

The map will have be quite sizable to work in a powerful Helsia (i.e. enough space for multiple cities), which leads me to wonder how the Civs at the edge will be hemmed in.

The Rannish are pretty much a "barbarian" tribe, just change them to that, give them powerful units and that should be enough. I also see next to no reason to include Ritti.

I'd be happy to provide help (and custom music for a few of the civs involved, since I've been slowly writing an EoE soundtrack as a side-project for months now).

I know there's a workaround for player limits, but we need to take game quality into consideration, and too many civs can actually overload mindspace and/or elegance. I want this to be a very good scenario. ;3

Helsia is big enough for... 5 cities, at least.

Thanks for the help NK, they have been devastated.
Also, it seems that the two nations I need to choose between are Kardil and Burshan. Which should I include in the scenario?
AND PLEASE PM ME MORE ABOUT THAT AWESOME MUSIC PROJECT OF YOURS DD

Currently working on a draft for a full unit list. I will post it in another post.

link to video.
I could see this as the Trehan theme song, but with flutes instead of xylophones and some chordal strings.

Treha will start with +Trilui, -Opulensi, and nuetral Nahar. When they offered me Helsia to betray the Trilui, I was seriously considering it but I got banned before I can respond or send orders: in a war against the Trilui Treha should be an important target to either ally or crush. (IIRC, my fleet was easily 1/3 the side of either Trilui or Opulensi and could easily turn the tide for either side.)

Civics I think Oligarchy-Merchant Guild-Empire-Classed Citizenship-(I Dunno)-Middle Class Revenues-Commercialism-Local Cults-Mercenary/Professional Armies.

Their UU would be Sea Stalkers, which are either dudes with Amphibious or ships that specialize in taking down Galleys and dodging Trireme cover. They also funded pirates near Opulensi while crushing them close to home.

For cities, I think they would start either on the verge of conquering Stadmen (just Treha) or just after (2 cities). The former would be more fun since the Opulensi were heading that way the same turn and early conflict MIGHT erupt. They also won't have an established Iron source and have to send lots of GTP for Stadmen Iron. Later they are establishing colonies in the Chimoi islands and on the Spice Island of Opulensi (Undia).

Thanks for the input Terrance, but the Opulensi aren't a player here. Neither are the Moti. I might need to expand the map, but it's already really, really big.

Meh, then you shouldn't really have Treha either. I never really worried, cared, or did ANYTHING concerning the area of your senerio (ingame, I mean. I still think it is cool). Without an eastern section for them to face, they would just be another part of the Trilui. So just make them part of the Trilui and make it simple.

Lj have you made a map already? I just wipped one up, an outline of the coastlines at the very least, which I'll happily continue working on (climate etc.) if need be. I can fit 6 cities in Helsia (2 for Trilui!), and a couple more in the highlands if need be, so that's a success. It's 96x72.

Messing around with a very rough city placement, the Trilui are going to have well over a dozen, which means they'll be strong even if most are bare bones colonies.

CharlesLi: I wanted to include the nations in the area that had or could have effect on the war. Leaving out the Moti, fx., was a bad thing to do.

SamSniped: Nono, a Civ4 Scenario based on N3S.

Matt: Can you make a screencap of your map? It might simply be better than mine. (I made one, but I'm no mapper. It isn't proper.)

I am working on a modded Civ4 BtS scenario that everyone will, in the end, be able to download and play. I know the OP is confusing right now, but I'm also really tired, almost had no work put into this today.

High Princedom of the Satar is probably a more appropriate term. 'Satarai' is an appellation used by non-Satar to describe them more often than not.

'Exatai' really needs to be a civic option of some sort. :3

Which, if you want to put it simply, is a meritocratic hierarchical pseudo-elective aristocratic monarchy.

@ Lord_Joakim: Gameplay wise, without an Eastern Threat Treha is merely a colony of Trilui (yeah ). However, with the Eastern Threat Treha is a useful sentinel and expansionistic ally while the Trilui messes with Old-World politics. Without the East, just make Treha an successful colony of Trilui and help them out a bit, and base a decent navy there. (maybe a wonder that allows Trehan marines +amphibious UUs)

Trehan Military: The Trehan Military is highly professionalized. Recruited from the guards private merchants hired to fight pirates, the Trehan Army and Navy are highly skilled and experienced, with most having at least three years of pirate patrol under their belt.

Recruits: Even for the land army, at least a year at sea is required to join the Trehan Army. For the Navy, most recruits are rowers, which in Treha is quite respectable (especially Inga-whatever religion there) and are often drafted for a desperate boarding or counter-boarding attempt. The Trehan Army generally is composed of paid citizen/professional soldiers fighting more Manipular than Hoplite style, but that's up to what NK thinks. It is noted that they are very tactically versatile.

Professionals: After a successful campaign or two, promotions are being scattered like candy. Rowers who have volunteered or drafted in battle will often be the first to be elevated to the rank of Marine, the standard fighter of the fleet. Army personel can also be given this Rank, but the standard Army Core is composed on versetile formations of mixed weapons. At sea, marines focus on javelins and axes, multiuse weapons which can be useful outside of combat (chopping wood for reparing, hunting, spear-fishing, use as a fishing pole ect) It IS possible to buy your way into starting at this rank.

Sea Stalkers: The Highest Rank of Marines, the Sea Stalkers are like American Navy Seals: the most skilled, the most effective, highly trained and dedicated force out there. They are used to assault pirate coves and pirate command ships in some of the larger sea battles.

Officers: All officers must have at least 5 years as a Professional to reach a Captaincy of a Ship or Commander of a Rank. It is also possible to outfit and supply your own crew as mercenaries and recieve a commission after a successful campaign.

Fixed, I assume.

Isn't there a possible combination between Government and Executive that fulfills this? I tried to arrange the two so that any possibly imaginable government could fit somewhere with the vague terms I intentionally used.

I know details are nice, but the whole thing just kind of falls to the ground when the civic option should be available to other civilizations under the name "Exatai". :/

Despotism and Tribal council or Aristocracy could, for example, archieve this, possibly supported by some culture civic.

Don't get me wrong, I want absolutely everything I could possibly include to be included. Especially something as important as the Exatai. The things just happen to also have a need to be elegant properties of a greater game. I want the thing to play well. To many details and options would muddy that up, which is why I'm currently asking what areas to cut.

Do you think any combination of the civics present could archieve the Exatai? If not, what additional civic option would, and where would it belong?

@Charles Li, depending on the final map, I might actually consider your first proposal and fuse Treha with Trilui. However, I really, really like your unit descriptions and if anything, Sea Stalker will be a cultural unit. ^^

Important cities to have for the Faronun are Dremai, Salei (Sahelahaia, if you go by its Faerouhaiaouan name), Subal and of course Farou itself. A link to my map, set just after the Treda (Satar Invasion), can be found here. Adding in Trovin, that gives a good 5 cities for the Helsian peninsula. If you need a space filler, feel free to point out where and I'll tell you which one of the cities in the area is most important.

Subal was administrated by Hu'ut aristocrats at this time period though.

That is true, although it would probably hold a good mix of both of our cultures at this point. My point is that Subal is relevant to the Faronun/Faroun people, not necessarily to the political entities that they've created. At any rate, it's an important city in Helsia.
